Re: Why is United Cutlery stopping production on LOTR items?

Just quickly jumping in here to say that if you are looking for a lotr inspired sword(s), the best place to look would be at http://www.christianfletcher.com/ under swords and angus trim. They have modified several blades to look like Glamdring and Aragorns Ranger sword. While they may not be exact...

Re: Why is United Cutlery stopping production on LOTR items?

But...does Albion take special requests?? The hardest thing you have to overcome when dealing with custom orders from Albion, ATrim, Odinblades and Christian Fletcher is that they are well aware that out and out copying of the movie props leaves them liable to be sued by New Line Cinemas for infrin...

Re: MC Anduril in 2006?

It's all about price per unit vs. cost per unit. Apart from hand-making swords, the only way to keep costs down is by increasing volume. Because there's more to the selling price than just material, and the cost isn't linear. Marketing, packaging, royalty fees (to New Line Cinemas) are all involved....

Re: Spelling/grammar Check

Im not sure if this is possible, Ive never seen it one any forum as a feature, but im going to suggest it anyways. Is there anyway that there could be a spelling/grammer check for the post message box. It would sure help a lot of bad spellers like myself. Is it possible? -wormtongue Usuall...

Re: nead thoughts

I've always felt that buying a knockoff sword to save a few bucks the same as buying a rubber blow-up doll instead of finding a date.

It's all fine until your friends find out and wonder why you even bothered... ;)

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

Phasers are supposed to be particle weapons, at least in the TNG era. The TNG tech manual talks about them in some detail, plus in First Contact Picard makes that comment that if they start firing particle weapons in Engineering, they run the risk of hitting the warp core and blowing up the ship. I...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

What if the NEO is projected to hit while Mars is on the far side of the sun from the Earth? Surely the cannon has to have a limited range, so it would only have a very narrow window of effectiveness to fire and be useful, not to mention having to deal with Mars' own axial rotation. I'm no e xp ert...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

Just a note of correction for a lack of a better word... Another problem I had was with the rebels' decision to use Mars as a weapon to threaten Earth. Have they not heard of solar orbits? It is already somewhat coincidental that at the time of the events portrayed, Mars' orbit relative to that of t...

Re: I have the Gondor Helm in hand!

By way of e xp lanation for UC's decision to attach the adornments rather than stamp, it is probably for quality control. Think about it. If they were stamping these and there was a defect with one of the pieces (statistacally, there always will be), then the entire piece is lost. By making the hel...

Re: March Break

Well, it's 31 here too.

Oops, that's 13.

Oops, that's -13. Celcius.

Sorry, never mind. :p

Re: MC Sting care

Aside from the climate, I assume you must apply wax for the first time once oil has dried out? And then, has any1 used R.Wax before? since it's wax, I'm assuming it's harder for it to dry? Don't wait for the oil to dry out; if you have the Renn wax in hand, wipe the oil off as best as you can and a...

Re: Sharpness of MC swords edges

I do not have a problem BELIEVING that UC CAN make a functional sword, but apart from the COA, none of the marketing that I have seen mentions functional. "Functional" and "battle ready" are dicey terms for a large company like UC, and through them New Line Cinema. It lends to th...

Re: Sharp Edges vs. Unsharpened Edges

Don't take this offensive but. Faerfaeniel is RIGHT! It says right on the certificate of Authenticity that it is a fully functional sword. Skyanide, I think your wrong! Here is the proof. Read the 1st 2 lines. That is the first time EVER that I have seen "functional" anywhere in a UC desc...

Re: Sharp Edges vs. Unsharpened Edges

On SLO... No, it's not. I'm sorry if that upsets you, but it's true. It can be a beautiful piece of art, as most of UC's LOTR line is. It can look fantastic hanging on a wall, as most of the UC LOTR line does. But looking like a sword does not make something a sword. I can call a bent stick "E...

Re: Sharpness of MC swords edges

In short, if someone is telling you that the reason they're not shipping you a double edged sword sharpened is illegal either THEY'RE LYING TO YOU or they DONT KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT. And by the way -- http://www.ucforums.com/showpost.php?p=22701&postcount=7 A double edged sword is ill...

Re: Sharp Edges vs. Unsharpened Edges

For the most part, United Cutlery adheres to the laws of the MAJORITY of the countries it ships to. THE UNITED STATES HAVE SOME OF THE MOST LAX WEAPONS LAWS IN THE WORLD, but many, many countries do not allow sharpened swords through customs. Sting is an exception I believe because of its length. My...

Re: Stupid question/help request

My advice to you is to accept NEITHER as a gift. Both would be lovely gifts, but you would be ten times better off to buy them BOTH yourself. I've been married, divorced, and married again, trust me on this. Pull up a chair, Son, and learn... There are the Three Laws of Receiving Gifts from a woman....

Re: Unlimited Shards of Narsil

The only reason the demand has risen for the Shards is because it is Sold Out. The only reason they sold out was because the people that missed out on the LE Anduril went for the next LE that was available so that they could make a profit in the future. Those who really wanted the Shards bought them...

Re: UC & Other Companies

One of the #1 rules of manufacturing is to carry just enough facility to keep the overhead costs to a minimum. That way, when "things are slow" you're not bleeding money with facility costs (taxes, lights, power, etc) and when things are "busy" you maximize profit because many fa...
