Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Maybe it's just the angle, the lighting, or most likely, my eyes, but the fuller doesn't seem as deep as in the previous photos? Other than that, this is all looking very cool. What's that other plaque to the left? It looks like the same shape as Strider's Elven Knife, and it has a scabbard on it, b...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Probably (hopefully) by Christmas, but who knows. So you're saying there's a chance! (Name that movie) Alright, when my new collection room is finished in two months , I'll be sure to not put up my old staff in anticipation of the new one. Hopefully they approve changing the mount. I don't ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'll check, but I don't think any new white staffs are inbound. I know UC was not happy with the quality of the last run, so they want to move it to their primary polyresin factory that does all of the big replicas. I suggested they update the paint finish from bone white to the white with gray str...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I know it can't be helped and I'm certainly not debating UC's right to make updates to their products during reissues, but it always irritates me a little when I find out about these 'accuracy' improvements, and that my original piece doesn't have them. Part of the satisfaction of collecting these t...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Agreed, the cheap polyester ones have already been don't by the german company Flaggen-Pehl - I have several, they're ok, but nothing special. I would hope UC could go a step above - a heavier fabric with perhaps a mix of embroidery and screen printing? Im sure people would rather pay $250 for a de...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Are UC's Sting swords M.E. scale? I assumed so given in human/elven hands they'd be daggers and in Hobbit hands swords. I'm 100% certain they are (or as close as possible). By comparison, the Noble Sting, which is actor scale, is huge. I'm pretty sure the Weta Master Swordsmith one is actor scale a...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It's the opposite of what Val said, but it should not have been done regardless. Someone in UC's purchasing department ordered another run, not realizing it was limited and sold out. By the time they caught it, the factory had already made 100 or so. They came up with the "new" version so...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thank you Kit that is very helpful to newer collectors, I'm sure this has been asked and answered at some point on here but I didn't know the MC Sting run was never finished. Is there any chance this could be revised? I was under the impression that all the blades had been made, it was the run of d...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Ronin, if you go far enough in Kit's thread (sorry, don't recall the page #), you will see the awesome customization work he did on his NC Elessar Crown. If UC were to ever go back to their unreleased version, I'd hope he could convince them to incorporate those improvements.

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

It was (and is ) apparent you have written professionally ... your posts are testimony to that. You write very well. Grammatically, structurally... just exceptionally good writing (which is becoming more and more rare....like, you know, you kinda get what I mean? ;) ) Well, thank you. That's high p...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

You read correctly, the mini helm line disappointingly switched to polystone some years ago, so it's a nice surprise to see a return to metal, even if I suspect it will be limited to this one piece due to the miniscule amount of material required. I haven't looked at Noble's site in a long time, but...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I intend to use them for Thranduil's non-UC helms, which he padded to be worn, so I think the height should be fine. I also have the Rivendell and Mirkwood helms with the modern armour stands, and though I don't super mind them, I'm wondering if I should buy four of these instead and unify the look ...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

No way, no how that thing makes it into my collection. While I certainly appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of the piece, its character and scene association are non-starters for me. Had they simply released it as 'Generic Rohirrim Helm', I would have been all over it, but knowing that the box ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit, the original run of the Gondor helm came in the brown, movie-agnostic sleeve, correct? I have one, but it's packed up though I think I can access it to inspect it. The Elendil helm I have has a blue sleeve from the original RoTK run, and the Isildur helm, which came a bit later, also has the br...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Has anyone seen this? https://www.theonering.net/torwp/2022/11/07/115659-jrr-tolkien-is-2022-highest-earning-media-estate/ Looks like it's raining money on Tolkien Estate :jaw: Good for them, but the sad irony is that I think that is exactly what JRR and Christopher never wanted and fought so hard ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Well, that's weird... if that's a reissue, I don't see the rivets at all. When they first appeared, they were positioned in the brow area, just to either side of the nose guard. Also, yes, that helm is sitting very low on the stand. Either the stand's post height had been shortened, or the Helm is m...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Speaking of, is it possible those rivets were present on the original prop helms too? Not in any screencap that I just looked up, so no, I'd say they are not present on the originals. And yeah, you touched on another pet peeve of mine with the reissues, with the recent mention that the the reissue ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

One thing I feel that sucks about the reissues is that invariably there is something slightly different about them that makes them subpar to the original release. To cite one of many examples, the Gondorian helm now has these two unsightly rivets right above the nose guard. They were not there on th...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Seeing how much UC has been reissuing their older LOTR replicas, I've stopped trying to hunt down a lot of the rarer items I don't have yet in the hopes that they will be reissued as well. I think that's a very safe bet. Other than Gimli's Battle Axe and Walking Axe (and LE items, hopefully), I thi...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Well, to paraphrase Sigmund Freud, "Sometimes a crap show is just a crap show". This article below makes clear these are only rumours at this point, but so much of it rings true to what I've heard, read, seen, and experienced, that I find it hard to not believe that most of that will come ...
