Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It's definitely one of those "to each his own" things but I've never fully understood the demand for a movie prop replica to be functional. There are a lot of great functional bows on the market as it is. If I showed up at my local archery range with a Lothlorien Galadhrim bow, I would pro...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!
I finally took the plunge and ordered mine yesterday and received the cleared-for-dispatch notice today. Fingers crossed on an undamaged arrival.
You may have gotten in just under the wire. The web site status has changed to 'Pre Order', so I emailed r...

Re: The Hobbit
In the first Hobbit film, we saw Radagast save Sebastian by drawing out the dark power and storing it into the crystal from his staff. I'm wondering, could this have something to do with him turning up again at Dol Guldur, and also perhaps lead to his death if i...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Regarding the Staff Of Radagast, I was thinking that $40 to the east coast seemed high but after seeing the shipping charges that sellers on eBay are quoting, $40 isn't as high as I thought. I really want one, so I want to make a decision fairly soon. (I also want the Staff of Gandalf but, with Weta...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I was looking through the new, "Chronicles: Art & Design" book today (by Hennah, Taylor & Falconer) and was absolutely blown away by the Rivendell Guards! They incorporate the High Elven helms into a design reminiscent of the Galadhrim elves at Helm's Deep. The bow and quiver are s...
I was lucky enough to really get into LOTR after I had seen the EE's so I never had that issue. My only problem is now: wanting to buy that edition for that stupid preview... Which I am going to control myself because I know someone will put it online :) [/qu...

Re: The Hobbit

Just watched the new trailer. The orcs all appear to be CGI. Am I seeing it right? I have to say that, for me, it's all taking on more of the "feel" of a children's story, less of LOTR. Maybe it's Radagast and the rabbit-powered sleigh? Regardless, it's going to be an epic theater e xp eri...

Re: The Hobbit
Same here EG... but with, as I describe them, Professors of Middle Earth around here, like Val, I dont think I need to read them!
You really should consider reading anything about M.E. that you can. The world unfolds in your head as you read, cre...

Re: The Hobbit

Perhaps in some way, it bugs him that the films are responsible for creating so much interest? Who knows with Christopher? All I know is, if it had not been for that trilogy, I would still to this day have never read LOTR...or The Hobbit...or The Silmarillion...or the 12-volume History of ME...or Th...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
There is another scene in one of the movies where Gimli utters something apparently rude in what sounds like dwarven. Someone else (can't remember who) comments on how impolite the comment is.
That scene was in FOTR and the phrase was (spelled phonetic...
Has anyone heard rumor of , or is anyone interested in Gil-Galad's Elven Shield being made ?
I've wanted one of those since the first day I laid eyes on it. I don't believe it will ever be made though; the detail could be difficult to mass produce a...

Re: The Hobbit

It seems I remember something in the Appendices about Galadriel preferring Gandalf to head the Council, instead of Saruman. She was probably sensing something going on with Saruman even then.

Re: The Hobbit

I'm generally not an emotional guy but, sitting here watching Sir Christopher, I found myself on the verge of tears when he stated that he hoped he would be alive to see the 2 parts of The Hobbit. I've been a huge fan of this awesome man since I saw him in "Horror of Dracula" (American tit...

Re: The Hobbit

I typed, "Hobbit trailer" into Bing, clicked on the first link I saw and there it was (small screen). When I went to watch it again, it was already gone. The guys have definitely been busy; there were a lot of different things shown (including Ian Holm and Elijah, Cate Blanchett, Gandalf a...

Re: Orcrist Revealed
Yep, would have to agree there. I watched the whole video blog and that scene in particular, and it's fairly obvious that it's merely a reflection of the green screen, like Steel pointed out. I fully e xp ect that to be removed in the final edit. Besides, the ...

Re: The Hobbit

Hi Kit! I've had trouble finding a Battle Axe of Gimli that's in great shape at a good price. Will that axe make an appearance in The Hobbit (don't see it in the pic of Balin & Dwalin)? If so, do you know if it would be re-released? Also, if UC adds the LOTR license, it would be great to see the...

Re: The Hobbit

I think the best I can hope for is to one day possibly see a cinematic adaptation of "Akallabeth" or "Of Beren And Luthien". I think that, from the standpoint of tapping into the interest created by LOTR, those two have aspects that can relate back to the trilogy. With "Akal...

Re: The Hobbit

But you know, it seems to me that to cast a 29 year old guy to play the part of an 87 year old Dunedain with a ton of e xp erience under his belt might not have been the best choice. (When I picture Townsend as Aragorn in several scenes, I just find myself shaking my head, "No".)

Re: The Hobbit

Only thing I ever saw him in was "Queen Of The Damned". I didn't care much for his performance. Definately breathed a sigh of relief when I heard that he was replaced with Mortensen.

Re: The Hobbit
Ah, a young Aragorn... what are they going to do, tape Viggo's face back like they did for Ian Holm to make him look younger in FOTR? :)
They're bringing Stuart Townsend in to play the younger Aragorn.

Re: The Hobbit

I hope there's a scene of Sauron's sword laying around in Dol Guldur, so that we can finally get a replica of it! :thumbs_up

Re: The Hobbit

Regarding the current discussion about approval/disapproval of the dwarves, I have to say that my overall reaction is that I like them. I agree with statements that PJ/Weta needed to differentiate the troupe enough that they wouldn't all run together for movie-goers. I still think that Kili looks mo...

Re: The Hobbit

Something I really enjoyed about LOTR was that they allowed Billy Boyd to speak with his native Scottish accent; they didn't make him "do" a fake English accent. I wonder how that's going to go with the dwarves? Since they come from various areas of ME, it could be quite understandable if ...

Re: The Hobbit

To me, the swords fit in with the geometric shapes characteristic of the dwarven culture (check out the section on Dwarves in Chris Smith's "Weapons & Warfare" book). The thing that's kind of bugging me at this point is that "Kili" (on the right) looks totally like a human, n...

Re: The Hobbit

It really blew my mind how much Andy had aged over the years since the trilogy. Oh well, I guess some of us just aren't destined to hold onto our youth as long as some! ;) (I'm sure tiredness has a lot to do with it though.)

Re: The Hobbit

What they most likely left out is that trailing behind Elrond are 200 warriors from Lothlorien, with Haldir and Arwen at the front of the column. ;)

Re: The Hobbit

Barry Humphries as the Goblin King - that's going to be interesting. I'm a huge fan of Mr. Humphries.

(Or could that be a joke by Sir Peter? :D )

Re: The Hobbit

I wasn't up on movies and such back when LOTR was being filmed (my thing then was music) but wasn't there a bit of negative response to the announcement of 'Lurtz' being incorporated into the script? If there's a big enough reaction against it, PJ may yank it out (a la Arwen @ Helms Deep). I have to...

Re: Black Orc PF

With the new Blk Orc of Mordor, the total of LOTR PFs comes to 12, as follows: (1)Lurtz (2)Frodo (3)GTW (4)Aragorn (5)Galadriel (6)Moria Orc (7)Uruk-Hai Berserker (8)Legolas (9)GTG (10)Morgul Lord (11)Gollum (12)Blk Orc of Mordor If you count the Exclusive edition as a separate statue, the total wou...

Re: Black Orc PF

I think that SS will give us those over-due Fellowship members (I heard a rumor that the Gimli PF was currently in development) but, in the meantime, I love the baddies! This will give us a representation of the full spectrum of those guys -Moria, Isengard & now Mordor. Also, it's kind of nice t...

Re: Holy c**p - UC were considering/making prototypes of these?!?!?
You know, I never understood why the Rohan blades were such slow sellers. They are amongst my favorites. I love the use of the horse heads in the guards, especially on Eowyn's sword. But, that's just my personal taste. Obviously, that puts me among those ...
