Re: The Hobbit

A series about Numenor and it's fall would be perfect for HBO.

All the backstabbing and betrayal and darkness that set in is perfect fodder for drama, and a natural successor to GoT in a couple years.

Re: The Hobbit
Reminds me, I REALLY owe LotR another reading this spring. I usually tear up at the end of The Hobbit, just at the shear splendidness of the whole affair. And. I hear there are many who cry at the end of The Silmarillion; they have tears of joy that it's fina...
Well, Finrod, the 9 men who received the 9 Rings became the Nazgul. I don't think I need black speech to convey that. :P That being said, I agree with you. If they can change their form they can change their outfits.
Huh, for some reason I th...

Re: The Hobbit
Speech o' Blackness: The only thing I didn't really care for is the Nazgul at Dol Guldor didn't fit the image of the 9 mortal kings in the LOTR prologue, then again, we really didn't see those 9 in their battle gear either.
Speech of the dark lo...

Re: The Hobbit

Black Speech: I totally missed that she was using the Phial. I thought she was using Nenya. Either way, I like a lot of the discussion I'm reading on the subject and I think it's a little more plausible now. On the Nazgul, I thought they looked fantastic in BotFA. They reminded me of the ethereal ta...

Re: The Hobbit

On the Dol Guldur scenes: Tolkien wrote of the War of the Ring that Lothlorien would never fall with Galadriel at the helm, lest Sauron himself come to overthrow it. To me that always meant that Galadriel was the most powerful being in Middle Earth EXCEPT for Sauron. In a one on one fight, I'd alway...
There are no photos of the Mirkwood sword as of yet. The tooling is not even complete, so I don't e xp ect to see it for a few months.
Do you have any pictures of the prop you're basing the reproduction off of? I'm curious to see what the difference ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

The mirkwood infantry sword is definitely going on my list....though I'll admit to being a tiny bit disappointed with it if that picture is what it actually looks like. Aren't the blades in the film much more of a bronze color? Or I guess I mean a more weathered look. Their weapons weren't the brigh...
Extras don't really do it for me anymore, to be honest. There comes a point where you just kinda burn out on the pure overe xp osure of all this stuff. It gets to be too much after a while, specially when a lot of things start to repeat or are just small varia...
Oh I know there's less than a snowball's chance in you know where for this to happen, but I'd love it if it did. But I readily admit I love Frakes and Riker and always wished for a Captain Riker Titan series, so I am biased.
Marina Sirtis and Fra...

Re: The Hobbit

Tuesday? Monday? What took you guys so long? I also didn't know they made a separate box. I'll have to look into that. If it was 20 hours of extras and a dozens significant scenes, I'd probably lean heavily toward getting it. I've seen interviews where Peter has said he's held back some reall...

Re: The Hobbit

If there really was some sort of six movie Super Duper Ultra Blu-ray edition with a bunch of extras, the FINAL DIRECTOR'S SUPER SPECIAL NO MORE STUFF EVER package, and it was less than $200, I'd consider buying it. Otherwise I'd probably pass. I don't have any of them in Blu-ray and it's too e xp en...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Weird how that works. I have the image of the half helix in my mind as being the tip of the arrowhead, but that picture above just looks like a regular triangle with a little circle behind it. I went to look for other picture of it and they looked closer to what I remember. The linked pic above stil...

Re: The Hobbit

Somewhere in the extras they show incredibly incredibly brief scenes of Gimli using a jewelers' loupe on some rocks in the Glittering Caves and Legolas is walking in Fangorn. I think that's supposed to be the part in the books where they show each other their fabled fantasy lands. I'd love to see a ...
Awesome! If I may ask, where in the Detroit area does such a cool Middle-Earth related event take place?
It was at the Maple Art Theater in Bloomfield Twp. Haven't been to that particular theater in almost a decade. It looks spectacular now after what...
I'll be getting the mace. I've wanted that for 10 years. I also be getting the helm. My HEWH is number 6. What I wouldn't give to get the matching number in the Rivendell Helm. I can dream <sigh> Still waiting to buy Tauriel's daggers and I am intending to get tw...

Re: The Hobbit

Friend of a friend had a ticket for a sneak peek premiere type thing and knew I was a fan. Had to surrender my phones at security to get back after the movie since they were strict about recording devices.

Re: The Hobbit

Just got back from seeing the movie. I didn't even notice that Dain was CGI. Everyone I all the LOTR has so much soft focus glow on them it's impossible sometimes to tell when a person is real or touched up. Besides, you're going to be focusing way more on his voice than his face anyway. It was good...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

The problem is, I feel like they inflate their prices by 15% for the LOTR/Hobbit stuff anyway, compared to the everyday KoA or other dealer prices. So when the sale comes along, it just brings them into line with everyone else, and the 30% actually yielded something of a sale. If they keep their pri...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

Yeah, I felt the same way as Olorin and BC. "It's been a long road, getting from there to here, it's been a long time, but our time is finally here," I took that to mean humanity had a long struggle to make it to the stars, but now the galaxy is their oyster and they're ready to roam the s...
Well...it appears to be standard practice now. 30% off at BudK, and The Hobbit and LOTR items are excluded again. http://www.budk.com/content.jsp?pageName=restrictions1 Looks like I'll be heading back to KoA for my collectibles. Now I just need to get BudK...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

I'll say this about the intro: 1. It wasn't very Star Trek. A little too late 90s jingly. 2. It was made way, way worse when they changed it. 3. Despite all that, I really like the song for itself. I think the song actually fits the series perfectly, and I like the intro sequence that goes with it, ...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

Yes and no, for me. Yes: If they use a Shatner/Nemoy appearance to delete this timeline and set things back on the original timeline. This can be a one-off series that is self-contained, and then I can actually, possibly, enjoy it. No: Because I'm sick of them trying to have it both ways. They keep ...

Re: The Hobbit

I think they should have a sequence where the eagles come in to fight the bats and the camera moves to the wings so it looks like fighter gun cam footage.

Also, Howard Shore will rework cues from "Highway to the Danger Zone" into the score.

Re: The Hobbit

They show the bat army on the far right panel. I thought they might cut that out, so that's interesting.

Re: The Hobbit

The most obvious spot would be to put it before Gandalf enters Dol Goldur, or when he breaks away from the Dwarves to head down there, to provide some background on how it all got started, and why he thinks he needs to return. Having Thrain show up in the middle of his time there would be really, re...
