Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hey Kit, Hope all is well! You may have seen a lot of chat here about the Guthwine replica being offered by Indy, I just wanted to ask, will this affect UC’s decision to replicate the sword? More importantly, to what extent will it impact UC's sales of Guthwine, and thus future LOTR releases? This ...

Re: The Hobbit

There and Back Again didn't feel like it carried the weight of a chapter dealing with the Necromancer, Smaug, Azog, and Bolg anyway. I think this is the best-case scenario... at least it isn't Into the Fire...

Re: The Hobbit

Does anyone get a bit disheartened watching the featurettes for this new trilogy, seeing as nearly every single shoot is done inside a studio in front of a green screen? Sure, LOTR had its share of that, but it was so great to see all the castmembers out in the country together, standing in these ac...

Re: The Hobbit

Ugh, do I really have to defend Shyamalan? Did anyone here, for one moment, genuinely think The Happening was to be taken seriously? It was meant to be a comedic homage to old horror/sci-fi B movies, and after giving the film a chance, I think it's almost brilliant. It is hilarious in the way it sub...

Re: The Hobbit
Why are the Hobbit movies inferior to LOTR? I think it can be boiled down to some general categories.
Just to add to/support your list: The new Peter Jackson is over the hill, so to speak. I was one who championed him stepping up to the plate back when...

Re: The Hobbit

He lost his marbles for sure. I could understand if he had to CGI out of necessity, due to a change in the narrative that improved the story... but he did the opposite. He ruined a good character design in order to make the story worse . And to top things off, he replaces Conan Stevens with Lawrence...

Re: The Hobbit

The worst, most inexcusable, unforgivable, ridiculous, illogical, senseless, and ridiculous use of CGI is.... Bolg 2.0. I've avoided this thread for a few reasons. Mainly because it would take a book to cover my entire thoughts on this film. But at the risk of giving 100% negative feedback, I'll onl...

Re: Dark Knight Rises: New Catwoman look

Right, BC. And unlike Bane, Harley feels like a tack-on (read: unnecessary sidekick, albeit fun nonetheless). I think the villains' qualities are always judged by their dynamic to the hero, in this case Batman. Harley is a footnote of Joker, not a mirror of Batman. She's like the villain version of ...

Re: Dark Knight Rises: New Catwoman look

Rev, don't try to school me on the Riddler and the Joker, please. It's unnecessary and well-known information, but as usual I clearly was not specific enough stating every little possible fact as to avoid confusion from your end. I never said the Riddler and the Joker are similar, I said they are to...

Re: Dark Knight Rises: New Catwoman look

Bane is already more Bane than critics can handle. Tom Hardy will be Bane in character, not in mere exaggerated appearance. Rev, you couldn't be more wrong. Nobody is judging Hathaway's performing abilities. I've argued this about five thousand times already elsewhere, but I roll my eyes into oblivi...

Re: New Member Introduction

If it lets you post, it's not too short. Welcome to the forums, Rosie. Do you mind if I call you Rosie? No, probably not. I'll stick with Rosere for now. Now I'll seize this opportunity to type the legendary words no one else has the wit to recall... "We lcom e to thi s la nds!" :thumbs_up

Re: New Movies

Well, seeing as how it's not an action movie, the acting was phenomenal and Gosling deserves an oscar. But the action itself was what it needed to be: serving the story honestly and humbly, not the other way around.

Re: New Movies

Saw Drive last night. Issues here and there, but it was great. I loved it. Totally refreshing to see someone understand the potential of an opening credit sequence. Overall, very much reminded me of Michael Mann's Thief (1981), one of my all-time favorites. Props!

Re: Why we hate our Universities?

Actually, I've seen you make the error before. More of a common mistake than a typo, but you never know, so I thought I'd point it out. I think I'm always correcting that one. As far as fragments and run-ons, I don't see them as an error. I'm a strong supporter of natural writing as if spoken by an ...

Re: What is everyone playing these days?

Looks like the banishment of my PS3 to the blu-ray-only dungeon (aka family living room) has spared me from a lot of this news. If only my favorite game title wasn't on it... but at least I know what I'm getting future releases for *looks at 360* Also considering buying Red Dead Redemption for the 3...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Actually Darlak, I think that gray one would look even more badass without the front legs. Think about it. When the wings fly back, that dragon is baring its chest and channeling a lot of energy in a clear and focused direction. It's menacing and intimidating. The boldness of it, I suppose. But with...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!
they are going to have to add some sort of claws to the wings to grab things.
Usually this is the case with such dragons. Even the fell beasts had claws, much like where bats' are jointed. In any case, the limb issue really is secondary I believe to ...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Funny you say that Rev, I think four-limbed (2 legged + 2 winged) looks more human. If you're wondering how you could make one of these menacing, check out Reign of Fire. It's been discussed, but I don't see a connection with intelligence in the limbs, so much as the head and behavior of the creatur...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!
I hate to point out the obvious to someone as intelligent as you are, but... dragons are not real either.
Humor aside, don't you think if we're going to create something that doesn't exist, we should draw upon things that do? That way, since it's not r...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Bats, birds, pterodactyls; none of them have arms. I'd trust nature, and aesthetically prefer four-limbed overall. The only creature that comes to mind is Pegasus, which isn't real... and looks rather absurd with four legs dangling uselessly in flight. But I've considered it a foregone conclusion si...
