Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Uhg, that handle color is terrible. I know there will be some variance in dye color due to the varying color of the wood used, but that is way outside the tolerance. Everything else looks right. Our handle colors have generally been that light as well: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1nysUQJUEB7Ru...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Someone fell asleep at the number stamping machine? There's some poor factory worker out there right now with a couple of Elf Helm edition numbers permanently stamped on his forehead. Probably. They were supposed to be hand numbered, as they have done in the past. There were also several pa...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

In all seriousness though, I don’t suppose there’s any reasonable way to determine what the SN should be? Not a big deal since I plan on holding onto it, but it may make a difference down the line if ever I were to part with it. I have no idea how they are going to fix that issue. I hope they are n...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Indeed. Just knowing that a never used on screen Glamdring stunt auctioned for $250k last year, actual screen used stunts are probably closer these days.

And for how Weta sees value, I was told that, the Ian McKellen hero Glamdring just leaning against a desk in a corner of the workshop... :'(

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'd rather buy replicas when they're really released than leave all my money frozen in pre-orders and wait empty-handed ...until you have more money to spend on whims to buy too much later those that really go on sale at that moment. Of course, with Castle Kon's new policy, we are trying to make pr...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Just a note, we have Eomer's spear up for pre-order finally! https://castlekon.com/product/eomerspear Small website update. I am trying very hard to update all the shipping tables for 2022. I have talked with multiple people at UC and no one has shipping dimensions yet. As such, we have estimated th...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

3. I would assume the quality control would be no different than anything else they do. What came out horrible with the MC Glamdring? lol... not exactly a ringing endorsement. All kidding aside, Kit, I never bought one, but I recall the complaints were that the runes on the guard were backw...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Absolutely, these are 420 stainless to begin with. Way too brittle and not flexible. You know how a few mishaps spread. I know of people snapping their Anduril just from screws coming out of the wall and this particular customer is worried about that. No actual abuse. Anduril is probably the worst ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

The term "full tang" has been so bastardized that it is meaningless these days. I think what people mean to ask is which swords have a full-length tang, meaning the tang extends all the way to the end of the pommel in one piece and is peened on the end. None of them are. Nearly all have a...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I replaced my tail on the Eomer helm with white horse hair. Here is the link to where I bought it and the 23"-25" length. https://www.etsy.com/listing/545419528/natural-horsehair-available-in-various?ref=yr_purchases&variation0=975911385 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50843051502...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thank you for the Eomer helm input guys. I wasn't told to be hush hush about it but UC sent me one to do a product overview video with. I wanted something to put there in case anyone wondered what it said. Not gonna get my hopes up to be sent more merch but it does make creating YouTube content eas...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I think the polyresin version was a guess based upon the blade design not being able to made the same and that there has already been a polyresin sword (Thorin regal sword) and gave it as an option. Speculations run wild on other forums, you know hopes and dreams and a small dose of reason sometime...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Do you think the corroded metal finish will look different coming from a different factory? I'm assuming it was an acid etching of some sorts, so it could be done the same. It was a deep etch pattern on both original swords, and will be again. It will look different, but I'm working with them to be...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It's going to be a while for both of those. Too costly to make those again in the old Taiwan factory, so tooling is being moved to United's China factory. It will take some time for setup and sampling before they can start making them. After Guthwine, Drew said the next two are Witchking and Ringwr...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Ah, I see. When you responded to my translation post I thought you could have been referring to the leather. There are slight hammer dents in the helm shape that are intentional, as on the prop. They are deeper than the prototypes on the two production helms I have, but that depth will vary as the ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I do have to say, each Eomer helm has a slightly different wear pattern. Some have 'scratches' while others have little 'dents' to show wear. They are clearly paint weather effects, but I'm praying my customers don't think these are manufacturing defects. On the leather part with the lettering? Or ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I would still love to have a real translation from Salo of that second line, or what the intended translation was meant to be. The mid•height interpunct in the second line was probably meant to be a comma. Knowing 'protector' was intended, this was my guess at the translation. HEARD UNDER HEALME • ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Unless I'm mistaken I think Kit means that they've sold out to retail outlets that ordered them. Correct. I am talking about United, not dealers. I still have Eowyn's and Boromir's ready to ship! Also, for Guthwine, we are still seeing a 2/12 release date which means BUDK retail gets it then and us...
