Re: Denis Villeneuve's Dune

I saw this the day it opened here in the UK. I had one of the worst experiences in a theatre I’ve had. Usually I love seeing movies on the big screen but I’d had a bad day at work, I was tired and really my mind wasn’t ready for Dune. Throughout the movie I was kicked repeatedly in the back, people ...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

I didn’t post this when it broke because I was locked out of my account - thanks Jash and Val for saving me! But there were some production issues and a dispute over budget. It has been speculated that rising costs due to inflation in Prague is what caused the dispute. Production was halted and acto...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Thanks for summarising the interviews with Goyer, but I’m going to have to check them out for myself too. I like hearing Goyer talk. I’ve listened to the season 1 podcast but have been holding off on the season 2 podcast. I have the art book on pre-order still and can’t wait for that to be released....

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

I just watched the season 2 finale and I love this show so much. I believe Demerzel is 100% my favourite character and I hope we continue to see more and more of her and that Laura Birn sticks around to play her. I won’t spoil anything for the new season but there’s a nice cliffhanger that sets up s...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I’m going to save the fainting until Haldir’s sword becomes more of a reality. It’s hard going on me.

I really love the handcrafted look of Denethor’s sword. I know UC will never go with that kind of finish but it makes Denethor’s sword look so much more real, like it came from our own history.

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

I agree, Andor is the only season I’d consider buying at this point. Recently rewatched it again and it’s great from start to finish. I have my fingers crossed for Ahsoka though and I hope they don’t squander the potential. Mandalorian season 3 was pretty meh and tbf I don’t have any desire to see t...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

What?! Seriously that was the budget for season 1? That’s insane. It definitely looks like more money was thrown at it. I hope if they can keep the budget low then it will ensure that the series continues. Season 2 looks even more impressive. I’m really enjoying it. I won’t say more as to not spoil ...

Re: TheKnighShop - Sword of Ibelin Knock Off or Legit Windlass

I’ve purchased a lot of pieces from the Knight Shop. I believe them when they say their stock is genuine Windlass. All of the windlass blades I own don’t have any identifying marks. I don’t know if this is a regional thing? Sometimes swords like the Ibelin sword end up coming back due to an inventor...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Full trailer was released yesterday. Also this article indicates that filming on season 3 has already begun and will wrap later this year. https://www.praguereporter.com/home/2023/6/9/apple-tvs-foundation-season-3-kicks-off-prague-shoot/?utm_content=cmp-true I’m hoping this may mean a quicker releas...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Yeh they’re releasing a lot of their big hits but I guess what I was speculating with Foundation was maybe they don’t have rights for physical releases as part of their licensing deal with Asimov’s estate? I guess we’ll never know. They may also be waiting to release seasons 1 and 2 together. I have...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Yes I’ve heard great things about For All Mankind so I’m definitely going to check it out at some point. There’s a new series called Silo which is starting in May which I’m interested in checking out. I wonder if there may be licensing issues regarding a Foundation Blu-ray release? I would love it o...

Re: Adam Savage unboxing video for Sauron and WK helms from Purearts

I still love the UC pieces, but you can definitely see a difference in paint quality. I’ll admit that I’m tempted by the WK helm. The UC helm is good, but the cowl/good doesn’t come down far enough in front so it looks a bit off. I assume this was a deliberate choice to make the badge on the stand v...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Over a year since we updated this thread, I think we’re still the only fans here Olorin. But a few months back there was a sneak peak of season 2 with a Summer 2023 release date. https://youtu.be/IGWT-t7AS74 Also found out today that there will be an art and making of book covering the first 2 seaso...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Plastic grip or not, I’ll be getting one of these. It’s one of my grail pieces and I didn’t snag one in time before they stopped being produced when I started collecting all the way back in 08/09. I wonder what price range it will come in at though? The strider scabbard is up for pre-order in the UK...

Re: Adam Savage unboxing video for Sauron and WK helms from Purearts

I saw this video the other day. I think they both look very nice but yes I was also disappointed with the open back on Sauron’s helmet, not sure why they did that? I think though that their Sauron helmet looks better painted than the UC one but that’s reflected in the price. They’re also doing a mo...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

I think ROP has just made me cautious. I’m also feeling a little cynical and can imagine the executives itching to set up their own Middle Earth universe. Maybe they’ll treat the material right though and we’ll get a couple of good movies. I hope that’s what happens if any movies get made.

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

I hope if more films do materialise then they’ll be better than ROP. But really I’d rather they didn’t do anymore. The age of the movie extended universes is quite a bit tiring. Maybe before long we’ll have a middle Earth multiverse story too? I would like to see them adapt the Silmarillion but I kn...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit, I have a feeling this has been asked before so apologies in advance. We all have a terrible collective memory :D Why was the throat added to the strider scabbard? In the movies it clearly doesn’t have one. Was it to try and make it more durable? I can imagine leather would peel after a while if...

Re: The Rings Of Power

It’s quite alarming that the showrunner state that this was their dream to work on Middle Earth. Imagine how much worse it could have been if they were only half arsed in their efforts?! That being said, I’m glad people who enjoy it are able to enjoy it. It just went off the rails for me and never r...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

I get you BC. I grew up with the Prequels, I loved them as a kid but soured on them for a number of reasons. I definitely became more aware of their flaws as an adult but also the whole “ohhhhh the prequels are crap and if you like them you’re not a true fan” thing did get to me. I don’t hate the se...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

Did you ever get round to watching the shows Olorin? Kenobi wasn’t great. Started out promising but quickly went meh I felt. It was great seeing Ewan back in the role, but I wish it could have been better. Andor is superior than all the shows so far. I get why people say it’s boring but personally I...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Just watched the finale. Meh. The last shot of Sauron looking out over Mordor reminded me of that god awful Shannara Chronicles series where the dodgy elf guy “unexpectedly” turned out to be the bad guy. There’s a few things about Rings of Power that reminds me of the Shannara Chronicles. The corrup...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Did not like the battle episode. Not a fan of the action and a lot of the dramatic moments felt unearned. Im at a stage now where I’m more worried than positive. Half way through the series it feels as if the characters haven’t evolved, there’s no arcs, especially for Galadriel. Or maybe there is an...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I’m starting to have doubts, big ones. I enjoy it well enough, and it looks pretty. But I don’t like the way Galadriel is written. I was unsure about the actress but the actress is fine it’s the way her character is written. It’s odd that she’s written as a teenager and not a thousands of years old ...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Some of the other Numenorian blades they’ve designed are unique and different. It is odd that they have more knock off designs in places like with Aeglos and this Narsil look a like. Narsil wouldn’t have been forged yet though would it? Ar-Pharazon’s sword looks beautiful - we saw a small glimpse in...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I have indeed seen it Deimos and it irks me also. A part can be played by anyone. Eddie Redmayne apologising for playing a trans character also wound me up. Exodus isn’t the greatest film ever but I enjoy it even with its all white cast, same as Prince of Persia. But I’d also happily watch a movie a...

Re: The Rings Of Power

No, not every negative review is by racist ring wing bigots. However, the most vocal critics, for whatever reason, seem to be those people. I’ve found a few criticisms of how it changes the Middle Earth mythology and that’s fair enough, I get and accept their criticism. For me, it’s not so much of a...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Yes I can imagine there will be changes to the lore that irk fans, much like what happened with The Hobbit and LOTR. It’s a shame that I can’t engage with those genuine criticisms because it’s being swamped by the hateful stuff. I’d be interested in seeing links if you have any to share. I don’t int...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I’m not sure it’s wrecked. There’s review bombing currently ongoing, sadly. The reviews from fans of Tolkien and people who haven’t read the material are mixed to positive from what I’ve seen as well as some negative who don’t like the changes. I’m not overly familiar with what the story should be, ...

Re: The Rings Of Power

There is definitely criticism to be had, and I am not against criticism, I’ve raised my own just in my previous posts. There is a difference, however, between being critical and being toxic in your rhetoric. I think we’ve all raised our own criticism about the series here and those are valid critici...

Re: Expert Swordsman Analyzes LOTR

Matt Easton goes by Scholagladiotria on YouTube. He’s my favourite YouTuber for any weaponry related issues. He used to do these vids on his channel for his own audience where he’d react and critique movie sword fights. He’s covered episodes of GOT and movies like Star Wars and Kingdom of Heaven too.

Re: The Rings Of Power

Thank you for your response Deimos. I want to clarify that my post wasn’t motivated by anyone here. We all had a somewhat heated discussion earlier this year but it was still civil and we’re lucky it didn’t descend into chaos as it often does elsewhere on the internet. But I think that’s mainly to d...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Posting this because I feel bad about the situation. I think it’s easy to say that things are done for money, to strip away artistic merit on the basis that because they’re made to make money how can they ever be true art. We know that this isn’t the case. Amazon surely saw it as a pot of gold but I...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

Yeh I see that too but I disagree completely. People say that and fan cast Keanu Reaves as Revan. Please no. I think KOTOR 1 and 2 work so well because they are games and they’re RPGs. I think it would be hard to condense it into a movie but also I don’t think a series will work either. The story is...
