Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'm curious as to how much of an increase in shipping it would be to have the bow made into two pieces vs one. Are we talking double, or triple the price compared to say a sword? The sales for steel swords vs polyresin prop replicas are night and day. Anduril is considered extra large and gets hit ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Lothlorien bow - count me in!!! Besides, from the time Kit confirms UC has approved something, it takes a year or more before it sees the light of day and that's a long time to have a blank spot on my wall. As for that list, I'd love Haldir's sword, anything for Merry and Pippin, and Gimli's Throwin...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'll post photos once I've completed it and fixed it to the Guthwine scabbard! I'm halfway through modelling the hardware, just the pretzel & buckle to go. Cool. All that tooled leather should be a fun challenge. IMG_4685.jpg So far so good - just the pretzel and the double-horsehead part of th...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I assume the cast belt parts on the hero props were bronze, or at least meant to look like that. I think it's just paint effects to give it that dark patina and tarnished look, but that's more of a bronze thing than the way brass tarnishes. The United Eomer parts are what we call "antique bras...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Wow - that's a lot of typos! My apologies - should've proof-read. what it should have said is - Kit - slightly random question but I figured you're the best person to ask. I'm working on a replica belt for the Eomer sword scabbard - I can't decide whether to make the parts in brass or bronze. I beli...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit - slightly random question but I figured you're the best person to ask. I'm working on a replica belt for the Homer sword scabbard - I can't decide whether to make the parts in brass or bronze. I believe the props were bronze, however I want them to match with the UC replicas for obvious reasons...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

With a little skill and work, they could be corrected. Grind off the brass rivets, line it properly, drill two new holes, and re-rivet. You might have one hole showing, but this could be filled with a steel coloured rivet and hammered pretty flat, barely noticeable. We shouldn't have to carry out re...

Re: UC "Museum Collection" Carbon Steel Anduril ??

Kit - thank you so much for this. This is wonderful news! Yes, I'll fill the stitch groove (I did that on the plastic core of the Sting scabbard before I wet wrapped that, so it shouldn't be an issue) Completely understand the limitations in the production version - I've had an Anduril on my wall fo...

Re: UC "Museum Collection" Carbon Steel Anduril ??

Kit - once we finally receive this new Anduril, I'd like to remove the leather and replace it with a wet-wrapped veg tan piece. before I do, I wanted to ask what does the metal handle underneath look like? are the cord ridges distinct from the lower portions, or does it just flow high/low/high? A pi...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Agreed, the cheap polyester ones have already been don't by the german company Flaggen-Pehl - I have several, they're ok, but nothing special. I would hope UC could go a step above - a heavier fabric with perhaps a mix of embroidery and screen printing? Im sure people would rather pay $250 for a dec...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Well now... I had never heard that story! Have you ever mentioned that before, Kit? If so, then I apologize. So what is the numbering on those things then? Does it continue, or do they start at 1? Wow, still learning weird facts after all these years. :O Having said that, I still take UC to task fo...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

generally they don't reprint certificates, especially for such an old item. That was released I think under the old UC before they were bought out. Your best options are either a straight up photocopy, or ideally - get a high res scan of someones, and isolate the black text from the parchment textur...

Re: UC "Museum Collection" Carbon Steel Anduril ??

Cant wait for this. I asked Kit a while ago RE: hollow grinds on UC swords, he pointed out they do actually have them, just much more shallow due to machine limitations. I'd love to know if thats still the case, and if so why? surely a smaller contact when could be applied .... unless its down to co...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I must have missed that post - good to know. I’m glad the wood didn’t go far, it certainly made my modifications easier. I’m just asking some paint finishes to the shaft then I’ll share pictures - pretty pleased so far! Looking forward to many more replicas to come, Theoden helm next I think! [quote...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

And even more interesting …. The depth the wooden rod goes is about 4mm! It then narrows, goes a further 16mm then stops. The steel rod will help a lot in allowing me to add a new rod, this is interesting !

Kit - I’m finally getting round to working on my Rohan spear. I plan on cutting off the wood shaft and drilling out the wood (extremely carefully) before shaping and inserting my new pole. Could you tell me roughly how long the piece of wood inside the spearhead is? Wondering if it goes in 5, 10, 20...

Kit - I received the Eomer spear yesterday - just want to say I love it! Slightly odd question - I’d like to remove the wooden shafts and add my own, solid one - can I ask how are the spear tip and end cap fixed? Are they just glued, or is there some kind of rod passing through?

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

All great info Kit, thank you. I wanted to ask - with all the news of new items, could you perhaps fill in some of the gaps/any latest news? Specifically: Rohan axe - a teaser photo of this was shown a while ago by Drew Hall on Facebook Faramir sword - Rumoured ... any development? MC Anduril - We'd...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I still remember sitting in New Line Cinemas office way back in 1999 waiting to see what the weapons from the films were going to look like. We were just entertaining the idea for the movie license, but wanted to see what they were going to look like before signing anything. As a huge LOTR fan, I w...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Also whats with the new Sauron Mace "Red Eye Edition" on BudK? Just riding the horse into ground Valyrian Steel style or what? Yeah this stinks. Much like the special edition Sauron helm, UC have found a way to work around 'limited editions' to have best of both worlds - advertise the fir...

High Elven warrior shield help!

Hi all, I guess I’m asking this openly, but also hoping Kit Rae can maybe shed some light on this. I’ve got a high Elven warrior shield is like to display, but it has quite a pronounced warp, I guess like a twist, from top to bottom. Any ideas on if this particular kind of fibreglass resin is suscep...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thought it might be ;) I've wondered for a while - do you think UC could ever change the manufacturing to create hollow grinds rather than flat grinds? I assume its more difficult (therefore more expensive) but do you think we'll ever see a more premium line with hollow ground blades? I'd be all ove...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

The sample has not been approved by licensing, so technically I'm not supposed to post photos yet. I'll just post these and ask the question. Is this the prop? Or the replica? :) http://www.kitrae.net/fantasy/images/Hobbit%201/Eomer%20Helm%20front.jpg http://www.kitrae.net/fantasy/images/Hobbit%201...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I guess the two Facebook threads and the LOTR Collectors Group Facebook poll are more or less tapped out now. Here are the top 10 in the LOTR Collectors Group poll - This was a checklist poll ‪‪Horn of Gondor‬ 70 Aeglos - Spear of Gil Galad 41 Shield of Boromir 38 ‪Lothlorian Bow of Legolas‬ 35 ‪Gi...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Those polls, limited as they are, have actually driven all of the reissue requests and much of the new product development since 2014. I looked through it this morning and it seems on par with the 2014 and 2018 polls. These are the most requested items, in order: ‪Sword of Denethor‬ ‪Helm of Eomer‬...
