Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hi Kit, I can confirm that the MC Glamdring is the only one with the error (ie runes reversed/on the wrong side). So ironically the cheaper regular glamdring is actually hero prop accurate after all!!! Since Weta made hero props both ways, neither one is really an error. I'm sure Peter has the the ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

My memory is fading on this stuff too, but as I recall, the first UC replica was based on a prop we were loaned during filming. I think that was a stunt prop, with the runes placed as on the UC original. We also had prop photos of the hero prop that had the runes reversed. It was decided to make th...

Re: UC "Museum Collection" Carbon Steel Anduril ??

Hey Kit, Any idea how well the orcrist swords sold? Is there any chance of them doing an MC Orcrist? Not sure if many people are interested but I surely can’t be the only one. And hypothetically, if you were asked to do an MC Orcrist, what would you improve on witr respect to the regular Orcrist? Th...

Re: Diorama Line

...Now, if WETA were to release LOTR/Hobbit miniature weapons and armour, I will be reaaaally interested. Weta [kinda, sorta] already did that....on those plaques that had groupings of each character's weapons. But I know what you really mean. WETA had some nice mini replicas of their bigge...

Re: Diorama Line

This is an interesting idea, but I can't say my interest is strong enough to get me to fork out money. I certainly look forward to pictures and seeing how people fit it into their collections.

Now, if WETA were to release LOTR/Hobbit miniature weapons and armour, I will be reaaaally interested.

Re: Which sword ????
That was actually my very first sword. I actually didn't pick it out. I asked for a sword for Christmas and thats the one my mom and dad picked out from the local sword store. Back when I was 17 years old... a measly 15 years ago :)
Heheh. Littl...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Personally I think there are still many ways to enjoy this hobby without having to buy every new shiny thing that is on sale. I enjoy picking and choosing what I buy, only pulling the trigger on things that fit narrowly within the scope of my drastically reduced collection. I enjoy seeing pictures o...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

The truth is Weta is charging what they are charging because... They can. And they know it. Their pricing model for their statues and environments are quite reflective of industry standard. Collectibles by nature have a very inelastic demand meaning that as collectors our collective demand as a grou...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I hope they re-release the museum sting. Is this a bad thing to wish for? There are so many things I want but after waiting and putting it off so many times, I have found my interest level actually dropped. E.g. I've been eyeing the Sauron gauntlet for a very long time. There was a time when I was l...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

1) I think it depends on how quickly these Weta bows fly off the shelves. If it shelf warms then I suspect UC will not be inclined to put time and effort playing catch up. There are so many other hobbit prop possibilities like working out how to make a full metal Thranduil blade which if practicable...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
Pity, I would love to be able to finish the Nazgul set with the third sword. Ah well. :| By the way, Kit, as an e xp ert on blades, what exactly is that hole for? Would a wielder actually slip his finger through there while holding the sword, and if so, to wha...

Re: The Hobbit

Anyone recall how radagast even had the time to pick up the witchkings dagger on his way out of dol guldur?

Re: The Hobbit

Saw the hobbit yesterday in 3D 24fps. Will be watching it in 2D today. Absolutely loved it. I thought radagast was well portrayed by Sylvester McCoy. Going by the online comments regarding this character & the jar jar binks comparison, I was led to believe the would be over the top and annoying....

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!
I know. Hard decision, but only 1000 pieces world wide. Of course there are a lot of Radagast haters too, and most don't know this is going to be handed on to Mr. G later, so maybe it won't sell out so fast.
.??? I haven't yet seen the movie, but does...

Re: The Hobbit
I'm sticking with 24fps, 3D gives me headaches and I don't really want to see the movie in 48fps if its gonna distract me from the story.
It's only a distraction if you keep getting all hung up about it and thinking about it rather than just sit ...

Re: Knife of Gandalf!
OK folks, I have just come across the most unbelievable, the most stunning Collectible LOTR Weapon you have ever seen. :O Khal, Val (hmmmm...that rhymes), N2D, Rosere....you hardcore collectors better jump on this one of kind Knife of Gandalf before it’s gone. ...

Re: Please Help!

Probably rust. You can use metal glo to try to buff out the rust. Use it in small amounts and buff it out using a cotton bud first on small areas. If the rust is not that deep, this will be more than enough to lift the rust off the surface. But if the rust is deep, the you might have to use more met...

Re: The Hobbit

It is true that Peter Jackson could have squeezed the entire hobbit book into 1 movie since it is a rather short book. But I am extremely happy that PJ decided to "fluff it up" and stretch it out into two movies by adding some silmarillion, appendix and his own stuff into the mix. I fact, ...

Re: Orcrist Revealed

Actually it is just the UC Glamdrings that are a beast to handle one handed or even 2 handed. THis is because the factory grinds on the mass produced UC's are far too shallow and not deep enough. The mssc glamdring is actually a lot more reasonable and manageable to swing one handed. It is not quite...

Re: Orcrist Revealed
Agreed Fin... On Orcrist, I think it fits wonderfully in the Gondolin set. Sting would be a perfect counter knife to a 1- 1 1/2 hand sword like Orcrist.
I think orcrist is meant to be a 1 hander for elves and humans which equates to a 1.5/2 hander for...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Here it is: A man's goodness is not measured using evil as a yardstick. Goodness is the only scale by which all else is measured. Darkness is dependent on the absence of light and not the other way around. This is of course a very Christian perspective. Where there is light, darkness will be extingu...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Fair enough. So it isn't superstition & religious belief? I know of some people who do not wish to glorify the occult in their household so they do not buy any collectibles of demons/monsters etc.
Welllll…“Evil” by definition is the absence of good. So if y...

Re: The Hobbit

Do not be fooled: even though the hobbit book appears to have a rather childish presentation, its central plot as well as the associated themes are rather mature in nature.

The hobbit could very easily be rewritten as an adult book.

Re: The Hobbit
It is presumed the inscription was added by the Elves when Bilbo was in Rivendell at the end of the Hobbit. All the tales of the quest were recounted there after the Battle of the Five Armies ended, and it seems natural the Elves, who forged the sword in the...

Re: The Hobbit
Oh crap :P and there was me thinking I had discovered it! Ah well, thanks for letting me know! Where is that thread just out of interest, I havent seen it!
Get up to speed with ur hobbit info man! Heheh. But yeah I must say I am a convert now....

Re: The Hobbit

Any rationale behind the UK anti-curved blade laws?

Or is it simply because katanas look cool, exotic & dangerous and get loads of media attention and so MPs want to appear to be doing something?
