Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

My progress on the treasure box is not nearly as exciting as stuff people have been posting recently, but I'm getting there for my coins. In the tray are a set of Noble coins (repainted), 6 Hobbit coins and 460 repainted plastic coins. Still waiting for a few more coins before setting up the box. My...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Probably enough info there for someone to do one in steel, although the actual dimensions are a bit blurred.
I'm surprised no one mentioned the article with Kit on TheOneRing.net. I was really interested in this picture they posted of Sauron's mace, it looks...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
Great photos Kit :) The Weta daggers look awful though :/ I'll definitely be going with the UC versions :P
+1. Looks like Weta molded an actual not-so-great prop, while UC had to do a design clean up to make it worth making in steel. T PS. Thanks for th...
Oh well, the fan edits have already started. And at lower than DVD quality no less. Uhg.
He does say he will upload a higher quality version (6GB) if there is "demand".
Apparently a fan edit has been created http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/11356763/Fan-cuts-The-Hobbit-trilogy-into-one-four-hour-film.html I havent seen this (I don't know where to see it) but the fact that they cut out the Dol Guldur investigation has mad...

Re: The Hobbit
The only reason they did it was that they needed a big climactic action scene for part 2. That was all added after they made the decision to split it into 3 movies. I think it would have worked better had they simply used the attack on Laketown and the death ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Canon just to the Hobbit and just in this one instance. Don't even want to step into the pit of Hobbit book vs movie canon. The Hobbit movies will likely make me learn video ripping and editing so I can remove vast swatches of the bad stuff to make them watchable. Lots of good stuff in the movies ma...

Re: The Hobbit

Finally got back to see BOFA for the second time yesterday and was happy to notice the the original Bolg design did make it into the movie. The ork the dumps Gandalf out of his cage at Dol Guldur is this guy. Pretty sure I even saw the weapon. Will be rereading the Hobbit soon... http://i16.photobuc...

Re: The Hobbit
Also, can you or someone jog my memory for me? The trailer showed a charge by dwarves riding rams, but I don't recall that at all, only Thorin, Fili, Kili, and Dwalin getting four of them to climb up Ravenhill. Where was that scene supposed to be?
Kit...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
The original filmed version was a lot different than that concept art. There were several Bolg designs that I thought were much more terrifying looking in the concept art that the filmed design, and far better than what ended up in the final film. It's almost...

Re: The Hobbit
Their power was related to concealment after all, so I don't think even he could tell that Narya was so close all along, or he would have taken it from Gandalf when he was imprisoned in Orthanc.
Excellent point Val! Was Narya actively hidden from him?...

Re: The Hobbit

So Galadriel, Elrond, and Gandalf all have rings of power, but the head of the White Council, Saruman, does not. I assume Saruman is aware of the Elven rings, but I might be wrong? Could they be hidden, even from him? If he knows about them, why is he not jealous that less senior members of the Coun...
Not watching a lot movies at the theatre, and not being "format savvy", will the BOTFA be shown in a 2D version?
My research shows that its being released in 2D, 2D HFR, 3D, 3D HFR and IMAX 3D. There may also be IMAX 2D, but I have not confirm...

Re: The Hobbit
My jury is still out on whether or not I really like HFR. For the most part I do, but something about closeups, I don't know how to really technically e xp lain it, but when the camera is in for a closeup, it looks like I am watching a live stage play a...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

There are major symmetry problems with that sculpt and or casting. Throw a grid on the pic and things become obvious. Eyes are not aligned. Large spikes do not start at the same place. Right large spike is tilted, etc. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b44/timdps/UC2941_2_l_zps3c8bbc35.jpg United an...

Re: The Hobbit

I quite like Fili's sword. Kili's is a bit futuristic, but also cool.

Will probably get both of these even though I have not bought the first ones.

I'm with you on that one. Great costume, would have really liked to see him in action.

Elrond looks worried or even a little scared of Bolg... although Elrond always looks worried... :D
No idea what's going on there, though like you said, this wouldn't be the first time a combo of Photoshop and laziness created something that is clearly erroneous to those with an eye for detail. Either that or the Light of Earendil is going to make a cameo as...
ooooo....tim is my new super best-est friend in the forums because: 1) he articulated very well how The Hobbit is such a patchwork of chase scenes (no wonder I came out of the theatre exhausted :P ), and 2) He is older than I am! (maybe only by a few years, but ...

Tim's DOS rant Background: Read The Hobbit in grammar school in the early '60s and loved it, but could not get into LOTR at the time. Gave LOTR another try in high school (late '60s) and loved it and have reread it every few years since then. When I started making my own custom jewelry in 1981, I na...

Re: The Hobbit

The Bluray is a huge improvement. The theatrical movie was much too dark and I'm also not a fan of the increased blue/orange saturation.

400 series The 400 series remains one of the most popular choices for knife makers because it is easy to sharpen and it is resistant to corrosion. 410 is a hardenable, straight-chromium stainless steel which combines superior wear resistance with excellent corrosion resistance. 416 is very similar t...

Re: The Hobbit

Will take the advice and watch in normal format first, then hfr. Saw it first in hfr last time and it was a little distracting.

From an Off Topic post in another forum: "Coming to OT for advice is like walking into Mordor with a gold ring around your neck." :-)

Lindir is right though, I do like the look of Bard. :thumbs_up
Dunno... In addition to the Aragorn lookalike issue, he looks too much like an older version of Orlando Bloom to me.
