Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hmmm I wonder if only this unit has a knife handle that color or they're all that color because the knife on the box art is darker like the original. I'm mostly curious to know if the swords fit properly. I had no issues with my new run Glamdring blue scabbard. I know there were problems with the Gu...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Edit: I just looked at it. Which prop is that based on? Obviously, it's not the one Indy cuts the bridge with. Is it from Temple of Doom? Or is it an "inspired by" type knife (in other words, not an actual replica)? Was it funtional? It was not really based on anything. That was back in t...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I didn't expect the Strider knife to be back in stock so soon. I've been counting the days for his scabbard to be in stock but I guess I can hold off for another month before ordering :) So soon? It's been out of production for 15 or 16 years :) Hopefully there won't be any snafus like the last two...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I see that messengers are pirates in more places than in my country. It's sad. :'( Many times I have also been charged more at the door for some arbitrary concept than for what the item costs. I hear ya, Val. As much as I complain, I know all of you in Canada, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand have...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I hear ya, Val. As much as I complain, I know all of you in Canada, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand have it far worse between shipping and import taxes. Minor anecdote here but I bought a couple of Seiko watches directly from Japan through Buyee which is their proxy shipping service. The two watch...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'm curious as to how much of an increase in shipping it would be to have the bow made into two pieces vs one. Are we talking double, or triple the price compared to say a sword? I also wonder if buyers are more forgiving of higher costs for more desirable replicas. I'm sure UC has analyzed the figu...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I wish PureArts would scrap these elaborate bases and just do something simple. The base shouldn't be competing for attention with the object it's meant to display and it adds too much to the price. The crown is nice but not 700$ nice Exactly! It takes away attention and adds unnecessary cost to th...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Edit: The tree on the PureArts does look rather unsightly now that you mention it. It looks like it was soldered on. It's weird, in some pictures it looks like a separate piece from the crest and in others it looks like it's part of it. It's like we're looking at two different prototypes. It looks ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I noticed the hammer marks right away and that alone puts it over the NC crown for me. I just wish they had done the reverse on the front too. That's part of the look of those feathers, and it's missing on both replicas. Both are also missing the smaller gauge twisted wire in the wire rope edging. ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'm just curious how the crown compares to the Noble Collection one. The description states that it's a "movie-perfect metal replica" but I think we've all learned to take such claims with a moon-sized grain of salt. I am happy to see that Minas Tirith finally got some flood lights to ill...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'm not on Facebook so apologies if this has been talked about already. I'm just seeing it for the first time. https://www.purearts.com/collections/the-lord-of-the-rings/products/lord-of-the-rings-crown-of-gondor-1-1-scale-replica-exclusive-edition As nice as the base is...

OK, ok. It was the Sauron sword.

Nah, just kidding.
Not. Funny.

 :club:

I bet it's the Lorien bow.
That was my first guess. The Lorien bow :thumbs_up . My second guess would be either the Boromir scabbard or the Theoden scabbard.

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

That's looking really nice! :thumbs_up Always interesting to see what's in the background just lying around. Looks like at least two Boromir swords with identical scabbards? Pity we'll never see those, unless there's a surprise in the works? In the second photo, you can also see something with a ra...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Sigh. Looks like Sauron's sword is all but inevitable. Like I said, may as well just make the dumb thing already so people can stop asking for if and we move on to other stuff. I just hope it's not a case of it topping the polls and then it sells poorly. It would only make UC more gun-shy about oth...

Re: LOTR movie trilogy 20th anniversary

Yeah, I was a bit baffled by the decision to only release ROTK recently. I realize it was specifically its 20th anniversary but the previous two years there were no wide re-releases in theaters for FOTR and TTT. As previously stated, given the lack of theater attendance the past four years, you'd th...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I see the writing on the wall... time to think about putting my HCG Lorien bow for sale, as well as my peacock quiver and arrows? I've a feeling those will plummet in value once UC's versions come out one day. Hmmmm, I'm not so sure they'll go down in value. I'm thinking about how Master Replicas l...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Denethor's sword is still on the UC list to develop at some point, but not the Gondorian sword. Very little interest in that one. The UC crew had interest in Denethor's sword until I showed them a closeup of the hilt. The prop pommel is very rough, not symmetrical, and looks unfinished. I don't thi...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I was hoping the Loth bow would be on UC's list too. I know the community wants it and I'm sure UC is aware of that. I'm guessing there's some development obstacles with that particular replica? Or perhaps some manufacturing hurdles? It is, but that was just the current bladed replicas list :) No d...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Looks like the Legolas scabbards have been "unlisted". I'm not surprised considering Kit stated there were no plans to reissue them. Ah well. Maybe one day. Interestingly, Smith Blades mentioned in his last email that he would be taking preorders for them once a release date was announced....

Re: The War of the Rohirrim

And when this film eventually flops like every other agenda driven, minimal-effort venture tied to a popular IP that modern Hollywood puts out, they'll start a propaganda campaign to blame all the "toxic" fans for it and then the frauds...er, um, 'fans' at places like theonering. net will ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

The exchange process was relatively painless, but unfortunately the replacement had the same issue - in fact, I think problem is even more pronounced on this one. new_elendil_front_small.jpg I examined this one a bit closer than the previous, and I think I see what's going on. There is a ridge that...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Well, I'm still inside the return window, so I might try an exchange in the hopes that the replacement is better aligned before trying to re-rivet the thing. Certainly wouldn't be a bad skill to pick up though - I might look into it in the future. Thanks! The exchange process was relatively painles...

Re: Adam Savage unboxing video for Sauron and WK helms from Purearts

Hmmm interesting. I still haven't opened my Sauron helm from the last run UC made. Maybe I'll sell it while the demand is high and bank on UC making a premium version. I think the odds are good on UC following through with it. A new Witch King helm is still in the works, right?

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

New Strider scabbard reissue vs the original (top), for anyone interested. The leather color is slightly brighter than the original, but it matches the green color on the current sword production. http://www.kitrae.net/fantasy/images/Hobbit%201/Strider%20Scabbard%202023%20reissue_1.JPG http://www.k...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Yeah, I was thinking about it over the past couple of days. I'm going to forgo the classic series line. Love Bilbo and the rest look really nice despite not seeing them in person. For me though, it was hinging on how good Aragorn looked. And with the InArt/Queens Aragorn looking like it has potentia...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Anybody buying anything during the 20% off??? I might pick up the Leaf Broach and Evenstar pendant. Yeah, after much internal debate, I ended up grabbing the Classic Series Ringwraith and the 33 Lakeside Hobbit hole. The 20% in of itself wasn't enought to lure me in, but adding free shipping made i...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit, I'm sure you're not at liberty to share numbers but I'm always curious as to what the extra cost is to retool these replicas. For instance, if you had been able to add the green injection molded cap, how much more would it increase production cost and ultimately retail cost? Speaking for mysel...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Why was the throat added to the strider scabbard? It was a production limitation. Instead of the blade fitting tightly to the wood inside, it fit against the leather wrapping inside the end. They tried it, but they either ended up with glue blobs inside the scabbard that jammed the blade, or the bl...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Ronin, if you go far enough in Kit's thread (sorry, don't recall the page #), you will see the awesome customization work he did on his NC Elessar Crown. If UC were to ever go back to their unreleased version, I'd hope he could convince them to incorporate those improvements. I'll look for it. Than...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

True! But maybe UC might make one, who knows? And then everyone who wants one can get one. I can only realistically make half a dozen or so, and that's with the molding and casting doing most of the work. I couldn't even imagine trying to hand beat each one out of plate brass and silver! UC does no...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Awww....crap! That was me! Sorry!!! xP Instead of quoting you like I meant to, I accidentally edited your post instead thinking I was crafting my own reply. No way to retrieve your original post now, so you'll have to repost what you said. Sorry! :embarasse I figured!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA All good. No wo...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yeah, I was thinking that. Maybe the prices of the older ones will go down some. I don't know how many are left in each edition of the helms and how many more production runs will be needed to complete them but hopefully if more production runs are indeed needed, all issues can be corrected. Now if ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I think Kit means that all Gondor helm reissues going as far back as the 2015 run have the dumb rivets. The very first run of the Gondor helm prior to that, does not. Right. but Kit also mentioned the other helms had rivet changes that were wrong from 2015 that were supposed to be corrected. I hate...
