Re: New Movies

MI is a miss for me, I've never seen any Mission Impossible movie. I avoid Tom Cruise like the plague. I wouldn't say I avoid Tom Cruise, but I don't trust him to carry a movie. I'll see a movie that has someone like Matt Damon or Robert Downey Jr. and trust that it will be at least entertaining. T...

Re: The Hobbit

While I could never imagine someone other than Viggo stepping into Aragorn's boots, it'd be interesting to see a fresh take on Middle Earth. I'd be hard pressed to say whether Ian Holm or Martin Freeman was the better Bilbo, and I'd love to be given the same problem again. Much like all of the discu...

Re: The Hobbit

I remain cautiously optimistic about this. I don't think it really requires any site to post about it; WB, MGM, New Line, etc. would be stupid to not at least consider doing further work in the franchise. The Hobbit might've been below the standards of die-hard Tolkien fans, but it still made money....

Re: Bugs to be fixed

It also has to do with your ISP. Your ISP assigns a dynamic IP address, most do. So when phpBB sees that you're on a different IP than you were before, it doesn't log you in automatically. Depending on what your ISP does, your IP address from one connection to another might vary a little or it might...

Re: Bugs to be fixed

I've tweaked the settings regarding logins. Let me know if this clears it up. Basically (for anyone curious), phpBB tries to ensure that you really mean to keep yourself logged in. That way if you're on a friend's computer or in a public lab, it won't leave you logged in there. There are several &qu...

Re: New Movies

One thing I loved about both the novels and the books is that, generally, it strives to not be a monster movie. It's not "the dinosaurs are loose, let's blow up the T-rex!" Even when the T-rex is rampaging around San Diego, it's not the heroes goal to kill it. It's their goal to lure it ba...

Re: New Movies

The Lost World novel and The Lost World film have few things in common: *Second island with dinosaurs. *Sarah Harding character and her vague relationship with Ian Malcolm. *Kelly character name. *Eddie Carr character name. That's about it. Both of the books have dinosaurs serving as this powerful f...

Re: New Movies

Went again with the family last night to a drive-in. The dog thoroughly enjoyed the parts she didn't nap through. :) The second film is only comparable to the first in effects, but the storyline lacks and is garbage compared to the novel. The third is just...a mess. It's only redeeming quality for m...

Re: New Movies

The message being, at least in part, what Malcolm said in the first one (doing this from memory): "You were so busy proving that you could do it, you never stopped to ask if you should do it." Sort of. [spoiler="Spoiler"]The speech I'm referring to is delivered by Henry Wu early...

Spoiler tags

After some requests around the forum, I installed spoiler tags to UCForums. Basically you do (remove the spaces from this...) [ spoiler="The text EVERYONE sees" ] The spoiler text. [ /spoiler ] There's also a button for it when you go to the posting screen to automatically insert the coded...

Re: New Movies

I'm a huge Jurassic Park fan, both of the film and the books. Jurassic World was, for me, a great film, but very different from the films that came before it in many ways.

What I will say is that this film beats the first in at least one aspect: capturing the message behind the original novel.

Buckeye wrote:I wasn't sure where to post this question, so I'll place it here . . . am I just missing it, or is there no way to go back and mark a PM as unread?
I don't think that's a built-in feature. We can look into it for a future project, though.

Re: Bugs to be fixed

I deleted back under 50 but the inbox said I was at 54% so I didn't think that was a problem. Do you have anything in folders? It might be 54% in the Inbox but the rest elsewhere? Like the Sent Messages? Not sure if this is a bug or not, but FYI: http://flameofudun.net/forum/main-forum/6941-uc-foru...

Re: Chatbox Replacement

BC is correct. Our site's chat will not work on a mobile device. It would've been significantly more money for this feature. It also will only come up if you're logged in. If you have a scenario where you're on the site, logged in, on a PC/Mac, and it still doesn't show up (after clearing your cache...

Chatbox Replacement

Hey folks. Pleased to announce we have a new feature on UCForums to replace to lost chatbox. We now have software called CometChat that allows users to chat with each other directly or chat in open chatrooms. If you look to the bottom of the page, you'll see the CometChat toolbar. If you can't see i...

Re: Bugs to be fixed

Posts per page is a forum-wide setting and while it might be possible to make it a user-based preference down the line, I can't guarantee it. The logic behind it is the bandwidth it consumes. Every time you load up a page, you're downloading new data from the server. While some of that is cached (st...

Re: Bugs to be fixed

As for the smilies, I'm not sure what happened there. Most of our old ones survived the database migration, but a few seem to have gone missing. I personally plan to hunt them down and restore them if I can, fear not. I'll take a look at our backup tonight to see if I can track down the rest of our...

Re: Forum concerns - what to do?

N2, I agree with Aragorn on this one. I suggest a blog or some other means of documenting your work, then coming here, or anywhere, and post a link to that. The discussions would continue here just as easily. It's not so much that I think UCForums will go down permanently---the other mods, admins, a...

Re: Game Of Thrones

I buy the Blu-rays as well. This show has great rewatchability to it. Between the insane level of detail they put into it to the blink-and-you'll-miss it moments. My only concern are the spoilers at this point, because they're absolutely legitimate spoilers now. Not to mention that the show has beco...

Re: Game Of Thrones

HBO Now is a streaming service HBO offers without tied to your cable provider. $14.99 a month, I think. But it only works with Apple devices and browsers. I'm not sure if I can even get it without having an iPod or iPad. Part of some exclusive deal with Apple. And it goes to other devices in July. Y...

Re: Game Of Thrones

I'm dancing on getting HBO Now, the problem is there's no clean way for me to put it up on my TV, so it's either watch on my laptop or pirate. If HBO hadn't signed an exclusive deal with Apple, I'd probably go for it. They're a very finicky animal, HBO. The real problem is that, though I've read the...

Re: The Hobbit by Noble Collection

I actually do know a little bit about that item specifically Val. It's just out of stock. I e-mailed them a month or so ago and they said they pulled it from the site until they have it in stock (May is the estimate). I imagine if the license e xp ired they wouldn't be able to restock them. Maybe th...
