Re: The Hobbit

To recut something like this requires more than one person. A second set of eyes and a differing opinion can make or break a project. A lot of hate gets heaped on PJ, but he had plenty of folks to bounce ideas off of. Get a few fans together, a mix of people who have read the book and haven't and pe...

Re: The Hobbit

...How is that not grossly illegal? Distributing a film, even diced up, is pretty severe copyright infringement...I e xp ect WB to swoop down on this. They've done so in the past. It's an interesting concept, cutting the film down to four hours, but I think you could argue that any film could be cut...

Re: The Hobbit

I have often said that if I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to forget a book so I could read it again for the first time...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I used a coupon code over the weekend. I believe it was 25% off. I didn't want to advertise that it "worked" here until the order was shipped so I didn't get anyone's hopes up only to have BudK retract it. But I never heard a thing from them and it shipped. They've currently got a 20% prom...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

BudK has Herugrim in stock if anyone is still looking...Much like Anduril's scabbard, it's not considered a LOTR item. http://www.budk.com/product/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-Herrugrim-Sword/productVariantId/150335/164677.uts Which means that discount codes work on it. I managed to snag the scabbard for $...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

There's also the fact that shipping into the West coast is insanely slow at the moment. I've had my preordered Captain America shield sitting on a ship off the Californian coast for over a week now... Not sure if that'll impact anything on its way now (Tauriel's daggers if BudK's estimate is to be b...

Re: The Hobbit

I'd be all for spin-off or appendices-inspired films.

And keep in mind, PJ barely wanted to do The Hobbit films. This may not be the last Middle Earth film, but it's almost certainly PJ's last Middle Earth film.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'd be willing to bet that the propmakers wanted the weaponry to be as iconic as Elvish/Gondor/Rohan weaponry was in LOTR. As much as I love Gimil's axes from LOTR, they're not particularly showy or iconic. With Dwarves taking center stage in The Hobbit films, they embellished the culture to rival w...

Re: The Hobbit

Yeah, I'm in a lucky (at least I think so) position in that I read the Hobbit over a decade ago and barely remember how the book ends. I'm looking forward to being completely surprised with a Tolkien film for the first time since Fellowship (hadn't read the books until between FOTR and TTT). I'll be...

Re: Middle Earth Art by James Hance

Yeah, I'm running out of space, too. It's gotten to the point where every time a package comes in I have the 'where is that going to go?' discussion with the girlfriend. It frequently ends up being in my office, but she's a James Hance fan so it works out well for these! We've got quite a few of his...

Middle Earth Art by James Hance

So tonight I was unfortunate enough to go out and about for shopping, but fortunate enough to find myself at a Michaels where there was a decent sale on frames. I picked myself up a few because I have some art to frame and it occurred to me that I don't think this particular artist has been mentione...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I had rather hoped to snag this as my first Weta statue. But given that price and the fact that I just got the Helm and Gauntlet of Sauron, I'm tapped out for collectibles funds until next spring. I too will be wandering off, kicking at the ground, and 'Awww shucks'ing this one...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I have to admit some...casual...intrigue by this sword. I still have a tinge of interest in the Fili and Kili swords and if this one comes out halfway decent, I might be convinced to get all three in one go. Like most replicas these days, I'll wait and see what the finished product looks like. Thank...

Re: The Hobbit

I thought the Master additional scenes were brilliant. The Theatrical just kind of had him and his toady as a vague nuisance to Bard and the company. The additional scenes really add to their characterization and the corruption in Laketown. DoS is different from AUJ and LOTR where there is not a sin...

Re: The Hobbit

Slight spoilers...? Just a warning... I'm amazed with the Dol Guldur stuff. I'm not sure which direction the editing went on that but I'm very tempted to watch the Extended and Theatrical cuts side-by-side for those scenes to see if it's evident. There's also a brief shot in Mirkwood that was defini...

Re: The Hobbit

Amazon has been playing games with Disney and WB in the past few months regarding pricing negotiations. As a result, some preorders were not available for things like Captain America: Winter Soldier and The Lego Movie. Amazon wasn't selling them as a means of leverage to get WB and Disney to meet th...

Re: The Hobbit

Just picked up the Best Buy exclusive. Took me forever to find it in the store, they had it squirreled away. The Key is the Noble edition, and it's pretty nice. I was a little worried being "free" it might be cheaply made or not the full size one and it'd be the crappy one you can get at B...

Re: The Hobbit

UGH. That sucks, BC. I'm heading out to Best Buy shortly to snag my copy. They've got a free Erebor key packaged with theirs. I keep swearing I won't buy from BB anymore because they annoy me, but they keep doing exclusive things that I want...

Re: Marvel Movies

Fox is doing fine with X-Men. I wouldn't say they're as sure a thing as Marvel, but they've got a good following and can attract a good and varied crowd.

I'll be fairly surprised if Fantastic Four doesn't bomb in the box office. That is just Fox desperately trying to cling to the rights.

Re: Marvel Movies

I think DC and Sony announcements might best be taken with a grain of salt. Sony didn't do so hot with the last Spider-man and there's some back and forth about the future of the franchise. It's not to say that they didn't make money of Amazing Spider-man 2, but I think they're going to move a littl...

Re: Marvel Movies

Yeah, I was following that event very closely, BC. I'm ridiculously psyched. Not to mention the Avengers: Age of Ultron footage that's been seeping out... It's very bold of them to detail 9 films in one shot, but Marvel's been handling their MCU franchise fairly well. They've had some bumps along th...

Re: The Hobbit

[quote=""Nasnandos""]Not yet. Probably next week, but...maybe these are a few?

Well...I better start drafting the obituary for my bank account...

Re: The Hobbit

I for one have thoroughly enjoyed The Hobbit scores. I think with LOTR, Shore was simply required to have far more cultures, themes and peoples to compose for. While The Hobbit basically has hobbits, goblins/orcs, dwarves, a bit of elves, and a little of Laketown thus far, Lord of the Rings was simp...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It looks as though the Double-Bladed Polearm has been removed from BudK's site. Might mean nothing but I'll be really disappointed if that piece doesn't get released. I was excited for that, even if it never gets a second of screen time. Could be they just had to push it so far out that they didn't ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'm excited to see how Sauron's Mace comes out...I missed the Ringwraith sword when it came out, but I snagged the Witchking sword and dagger. I wasn't a huge fan of the "dark" weapons back in the day, but they're intriguing, and displayed together are very impressive. I've sent along the ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I might just end up going with BudK. The reviews of it on there are somewhat disappointing, but I loved the pictures Kit posted of his earlier. If you sign in and leave an item in your cart, that's when you get the 15% offers on them...I'm not sure if those are glitches, considering they say that LO...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

All things I considered doing, Tim. Very good points and, with any luck, our users and the folks who come here to read up on reviews, news, etc. will be made aware of some troubles that might arise from une xp ected places. And you are definitely right, Val on both of your points. It's uncomfortable...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

No, I can do an exchange, but I'm very wary of doing this in case the next one comes back just as bad or worse. There is still some disagreement on whether the piece is defective at all. They're down-to-earth people and I don't think they're trying to pull any shenanigans but I think I speak for col...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

To bring my little tale of woe to an end, my e xp erience with the Helm of Sauron and Kult of Athena is a good example of buyer beware. Read your policies, folks. I've been offered two solutions, neither of which are very appealing to me at the moment. I haven't decided which I'm going with. I will ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'd e xp ect there to be a good amount of slight variations with casting and weathered items. A few degrees off, I could handle. Small differences give a piece character. This piece looks damaged, though, not weathered. It's a shame, because I've ordered from KoA before and I've never had any troubl...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thank you, Tim. You have graphically shown why my OCD is freaking out considerably right now. As soon as I looked at the helm head-on, I knew something wasn't quite right. I'll even defend them in that the helm basically sits loosely on the stand on a cushioned surface, so the helm might have been o...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It wasn't factory sealed, though. It's the helm they took out to photograph, evidently. When I took the helm out, I noticed it was crooked and went to their site to compare to the photographs there and found that it was the same helm. You can't see it being crooked unless you look at that one photog...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

So...pulled the trigger on the Sauron Helm and it just arrived. I have to say that it is beautiful. Enormous but beautiful. Only problem is, I think I have a defective one, unless someone corrects me. Funny thing is, I don't even have to take a picture of it, I can direct you to the folks who took a...
