Re: Sutton Hoo Helm Replica

Looks pretty nifty, Buckeye! My only hesitation is with KOA. I had some nasty interactions with that particular site some years back. Price might be good, but if you could buy elsewhere, I'd highly recommend doing so...Especially with something so pricey and intricate...

Just my two cents!

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Very excited for Bard’s sword. Maybe Kit could share some more photos here when he next pops in? Does anyone here have the UC black arrow? I remember a discussion about how the Weta one was better for details but I like the idea of it being stainless steel instead of resin. I have the UC Black Arro...

Re: Shire Post Coins

Looks like the Raven Penny and Rivendell Golden Moon have an additional sale discount. Sadly, nothing new for me to pick up. It seems Shire Post doesn't put out any new coins these days for LOTR unless it's another Kickstarter project. Having said that, and given they've already covered the major c...

Re: LOTR TV adaptation

One good thing is that television isn't quite the low-budget-second-to-film arena it once was. HBO and Netflix have changed the landscape, so the budget for this will likely be admirable. Also means they might be able to attract some pretty big talent to roles and behind-the-camera positions, too. W...

Re: LOTR TV adaptation

Well, the news is official now: http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/902705-confirmed-amazon-to-adapt-j-r-r-tolkiens-the-lord-of-the-rings They've given us an idea of what this entails. Speaking of the head of Scripted Series for Amazon, Sharon Tal Yguado: “Sharon and the team at Amazon Studios have ex...

Re: LOTR TV adaptation

While I love Tolkien's work as a whole, I do feel that adaptation or addition to the lore now is not inherently wrong or even that bad. The additions to the LOTR or Hobbit films are hit and miss, but in some instances it's because the source material (like any form of art) is flawed. Take for exampl...

Re: LOTR TV adaptation

When I first saw this news, I was very skeptical. If I had to guess, I'd say this will not be a LOTR adaptation, nor a Hobbit adaptation. I suspect this will be in that same universe, but new content. All of those movies are still fresh and still making WB money. I don't think they'd want to risk th...

Re: Game Of Thrones

SH, I'm right there with you when it comes to being behind cause of the little one. Last night I spent a good portion of the night with my phone propped up in the crib while I entertained our little one on the changing table.

He likes dragons and wolves, but my wife insists he can't watch GoT...

Re: Strider's Coat

CLEAR. *revives dead thread* So after recently going to the Vermont Renaissance Faire for the first time, I've decided that I need to go in costume next year. And I want to have my kiddo (who will be 1 then) dressed up. I'm thinking we'll go as rangers (he's named after a rather famous one...) and I...

Re: Bugs to be fixed

Let me know if there are any other hiccups! It's a bit of a weird system... At some point when I get some more time I'll take a look at the server to see what kind of space the PM system takes up. Given that we're a tight community, it's not like we need to worry too much. We can always adjust it as...

Re: Bugs to be fixed

N2, I might be misunderstanding you here, so feel free to correct me if I'm not fixing the problem here. 1. phpBB doesn't "send" the message in the sense of an e-mail. It sits in your Outbox until the person you're sending it to reads it. Think of it as a read receipt feature. It's a bit d...

Re: Beren and Luthien standalone book

I've had my standard HC copy sitting on my shelf for the last few weeks...haven't had a chance to crack it open. I have to admit I was a little shocked at the sticker price for what it is. But it's absolutely my favorite storyline in Silmarillion, so it was an instabuy for me. I'm hoping I'll be abl...

Re: Alien: Covenant

Ugh. I've been holding off seeing this...glad I didn't waste a theater trip to catch it. I'll wait for it to show up for cheap on iTunes or something. How hard is it to get an Alien movie right? At this point we have more that have gotten it wrong than right, though...Recently made a trip to our sto...

Re: Update/Downtime

I honestly don't use my phone to log in here very often, so I don't know if there's been a real difference. I'll look into if the latest update changed mobile login/saved passwords...If anything, I've noticed it sticking more for me on computers, though. Previously it would randomly log me off somet...

Re: Update/Downtime

We're not locked down with colors in any style, so don't stress too hard about that. I can go in and tweak the code as needed to fiddle with that. I may have some time this weekend to do so, but I can't guarantee it. Placement of avatars and the like get a little hairier, but not out of the realm of...

Re: Update/Downtime

We've upgraded to 3.2, and there were massive changes to Styles in this go-round, apparently. There's likely some changes that can be made to the colors themselves, but a lot of styles have different functionality to 'em, too. There aren't too many 3.2 styles at the moment, but it the numbers should...

Re: Update/Downtime

Hey folks! Update has been completed. I know the forums look a little different at the moment as a result, but I assure you this is temporary. The latest version of phpBB made a LOT of changes, and as a result the style we used previously is no longer usable! We'll be looking into something new shor...

Update/Downtime

Hey folks! Just giving everyone a heads up, we're going to be doing some maintenance to the boards later today (figure between 12:00 PM-2:00 PM EST). There may be some brief downtime, but I don't expect it to last more than a few minutes.

Re: Shire Post Kickstarter

For me, the only stretch goal I was interested in was the Raven penny. I'll always take a new coin design over an existing coin in a different metal. I think they could've done much better had they introduced more brandy new coins. Oh well! Hopefully the next one goes a little better.

Re: RIP, Bill Paxton

Still in shock/denial of his passing. He was one of those actors who always brought his A-game. I don't think I ever saw a performance of his that felt phoned in...A terrible loss for the film community.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I've kind of moved on, personally. I was really psyched for the polearm and would have probably used that as a mental excuse to snag some of the other items I've been eyeing. But with the poor reviews/pictures I'm not really willing to gamble on ordering something and getting into the mailing busine...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

What worries me more, Val, is that this is quality control. ie, these are the best pieces to make it out. The rejects are even worse. It really is a shame. I expected this piece to cost more than the average LOTR/Hobbit sword, and when I saw it was $200 I was impressed. Now I kinda see why. I'd be w...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

While I'm not a Weta customer, I've recently been preordering the crap out of a company called Chronicle Collectibles. They do Paypal preorders/payment plans. Not sure why Weta can't do the same. There's definitely the risk you pointed out Val, of them posting a charge when there's nothing in the Pa...

Re: Game Of Thrones

Even ravens take time. Not to mention, you'd think Sam would've heard about Jon's murder/resurrection. I'd think Jon might send a tweet about that... I'm with Val on this. The writers are just charging through it to get the pieces where they want them. For a show that moves very slow at times, it's ...

Re: Game Of Thrones

The characters moving quickly across great distances was what bugged me most with the finale. Usually in an episode, it goes a few days or so, but this episode must have spanned a few weeks. Varys had the time to go meet with Olenna having just left Mereen, then get to Dorne, then get back to Mereen...

Re: Game Of Thrones

Spoilers as well.... ... ... ... I definitely enjoyed the finale overall. While it hit many of the notes most people were expecting (Wildfire, RT + LS = JS, etc.) there were several surprising/rewarding moments. As a book lover, I adored the scene of Sam in the library. For Littlefinger, while I enj...

Re: Game Of Thrones

Rewatch the series: Quite possible. Seasons are short and overall, it's good.
Reread the books: Absolutely not. I've tried listening to the audiobooks even, and I can't get through them again.

Re: Game Of Thrones

Fin, I'd go with HBO Now. $15 a month and you get access to all seasons of the show and other stuff. I use my Chromecast, but I'm sure it's on other devices, too. If you end up not really liking it, you can always just cancel and it's less of a investment risk than Blu ray. If you binge the show, yo...

Re: Game Of Thrones

Regarding the reinforcement scenario... isn't that kind of what happened in ROTK with the Army of the Dead? Absolutely. Happened twice in that battle. Rohan showing up, then the Army of the Dead. Happened at Helm's Deep, too. But with those battles, they showed the forces coming. It wasn't a "...

Re: Game Of Thrones

Y'know, with the show moving beyond the books, I've been worried about missing an episode and having it spoiled for me. HBO Now was out for 30-45 minutes tonight, so I started the episode very late and watched because I know several people on Twitter/Facebook who insist on "live Tweeting" ...

Re: Dragon Hoard

Just a quick update for folks. Dragon Hoard will be getting updated in the next week or two but work has been derailed by a job change/state move/book launch on my part. All coming together over the last two weeks, really... My web server has been disconnected and lays amongst about three dozen boxe...

Re: Star Wars: Rogue One

As Lindir said, there's a fairly standard practice of scheduling reshoots for any movie. When you get to the editing process, I'm sure there are a lot of "You know what would be cool..." or "None of the takes we have are really what I'm looking for..." Disney has not let me down ...
