Re: The Rings Of Power

Regarding image number 1. I just read this on wiki ( I know...it's a poor source) "In battle, he wore black armour and wielded Grond, the Hammer of the Underworld. The great battering ram of Mordor was named for this weapon. He also wielded a black spear, and in early texts, a poison sword&quo...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Here they are big. I put the links instead of trying to embed them in the thread, because I've tried it and they look so huge that they don't show up complete on the screen ...and with the 23 posters, the post seems endless. I don't know how to make a high resolution image appear smaller in the foru...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I think they have posted them on twitter more biggers, more vertical, On facebook they uploaded them cropped to the proportions of instagram and the image is lost above/below. Without going into deductions of who is who on the posters, personally they have left me calmer regarding the quality of the...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I think my frying pan joke was misunderstood. It was just a parody on UC's strategy for rereleasing a replica that was limited, releasing a new edition just adding an item to it, like with the new mace with the flag... Although if they released that edition, with a screen accured Sam's frying pan, ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Grinders are not cheap and I'm pretty sure you get what you pay for. At least that is what I have found upon doing my research. I went with a fairly middle of the road option Ameribrade https://www.ameribrade.com/ If you have a welder and like to make your own tools, here is a cheaper option where ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I've been using a program I purchased many years ago called "Big print" and it allows you to scale any image and then measure and print templates. You do need 1 measurement to scale the image though. Here is a link https://woodgears.ca/bigprint/ I'm still a little ways from starting on an...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thanks for the pictures! @N2 - Hhmm if i cannot find the actual dimensions, then using Sam's sword and relatively-scaled picture will be a decent Plan B. Greatly appreciate the last picture you shared :) . If you do go ahead and make your own versions, I eagerly await progress pictures! I'm fairly ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I know what you mean. Sam is my absolute-est, favorite-est [human] character in the books and movies. I have his [book accurate] little box gift from Galadriel, and was making his [hithlain] rope, but that got put on hold. I'd pay a lot to own his real "Barrow Blade". Yes, Sam is the real...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

The MC was a limited edition, and as the number was quite small, I'm pretty sure they were all made and sold out. I'm glad it wasn't re-issued because.... well, you already know my feelings on the matter. Well, who knows, maybe in a few years UC will rerelease Sam's Sword like the MC but unlimited....

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I knew one of the Sam swords was being re-issued...just couldn't recall which one. :rolleye: I have been attentive because I have just started my collection recently. :) I wish they had reissued the MC, it would have been nice to be able to buy it looking the same as it does in the movies. But I'm ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

That is the one I bought and then within a month promptly sold to Guardian Wolf for the same price I paid...about $100. When he asked why I was selling it, I replied, "I thought I wanted it, and then realized that because I knew what those swords really were, I could never see this as a Barrow...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thanks N2darkness for the photos, especially for the size comparison. I would love to see the ones that you have already made in steel, I will look to see if you have posted a photo on instagram. Sorry, if I misled you. I have not made them yet and just starting the early planning and gathering sup...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thanks N2darkness for the photos, especially for the size comparison. I would love to see the ones that you have already made in steel, I will look to see if you have posted a photo on instagram. Jash, I have also thought that if in a few years UC does not release them, I would try to make them myse...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I saw the catalog on facebook and these pages have made me happy. I hope they finally release all these things this year. I have some preorders that are delayed from last year and I hope they don't affect new releases dates ...because there are also some new things I want to buy. And hopefully next ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Ugh... Sting has a plastic handle now?!? I read elsewhere that someone noticed on the BudK page for Legolas Knives that the handles for those are now resin and not wood anymore. Is this true? I get the need to reduce costs but it's getting to the point that replicas are becoming so far removed from...

Re: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone!! I'm 3 days late, sorry. I have had a busy start to the year. This is my first year on the forum and hopefully there will be many more. I am delighted to be here! As I become fluent in answering in English, I will participate more. Right now sometimes only read b...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I did ask that they use the correct one for the standard version going forward, but I don't know when that will happen. Thanks :D Hopefully it happens in the near future. Fullers are milled, but the blades are blanked out of sheet stock. Picture a large steel cookie cutter attached to a 200 ton ham...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

That's just one of the color tests on a blank blade. It will be the LOTR version, like the concept art I posted in this thread back in May. I think I already mentioned this back then, but this version will use the same sword tooling as the standard Sting sword. United did not want to commit to the ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

My memory is not much better. I started keeping a file of emails and text document of details like this, because UC gets asked things like that all the time by collectors. There is literally no one from the old UC there who knows how to answer those questions, so they ask me. To save time, I just c...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I don't disagree one bit with anything you've said, especially when it comes to ensuring that collectibles remain accessible and affordable to successive generations of collectors that come into this so late. What I am dead set against are companies selling a product based and advertised upon a fal...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

And about the reissue of the Red Eye Mace, I'm also happy that it comes out. For now I have only bought metal weapons (with the exception of Gandalf's staffs), because in addition to displaying my replicas I like to take them, inspect them and feel them as real in my hands ...but above all because t...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yeah, I was very surprised when I heard about that. I was asked, so I gave them my thoughts about it. I sort of understand what happened and why they are doing it, but I'm not happy about it. Suffice it to say, it was not something UC really wanted or planned on doing, but I can't really say any mo...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hey folks hope everyone's doing well. Just wanted to pop in and share my Orcrist project that I've been tinkering with so far: https://youtu.be/LP3XY0qV41Y I wanted, ha, to make the hilt match the scabbard, and obviously failed lol. But I like what it's become so far. Thinking about making a scabba...
