No, no, of course not, I was simply referring to the head of the weapon on the end of the chain, as I was under the impression that the actual spiked ball itself is known as the morning-star, whether it be attached to a chain (flail), or shaft (mace).

I e xp erienced a similar sort of thing when I first got my Ranger sword scabbard. I had to push really hard just to get the sword all of the way in, and then pull even harder to get it back out again. You may want to just do this a couple of times a day for example, and see if it loosens up a bit....
