Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

And we still have Faramir's sword, Boromir's dagger and the Rohirrim Ax for new items. MC Anduril and blue Sting for special editions. And Isildur's sword and helm, HEW helm, Gondor helm all reissues. Not sure if I'm forgetting anything that's been confirmed. And the end of the run of Elendil Helm ...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Watched the first episode last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopefully watching the second episode tonight. Enjoyed it far more than House of the Dragon. I have also liked ROP more than House of the Dragon, I have never liked Game of Thrones too much (although I have seen it in its entirety), but i...

Re: The Rings Of Power

No, not every negative review is by racist ring wing bigots. However, the most vocal critics, for whatever reason, seem to be those people. I’ve found a few criticisms of how it changes the Middle Earth mythology and that’s fair enough, I get and accept their criticism. For me, it’s not so much of ...

Re: The Rings Of Power

These two episodes have seemed entertaining to me, not great, but they are not unbearable to watch as other series today are... despite having a modern ideology, it is bearable. Mind you, this is 99.9% made up, nothing Tolkien, completely non-canon. Although the non-canon half of the story could hav...

Re: Expert Swordsman Analyzes LOTR

This new Youtube vid (dated 15 Aug) is fascinating. He analyzes the weapons, the style of fighting, the tactics, the realism (or not). The narrator focuses on specific scenes from The Fellowship. This is absolutely worth watching in its entirety (about 30 minutes long). One thing is readily apparen...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Yes, you are right that there are channels that are dedicated to criticizing everything and take money from the situation. They are quickly identified because, as you say, they jump from one topic to another to constantly criticize. I don't usually pay much attention to these channels and I only see...

Re: The Rings Of Power

If you allow me to enter the debate, I honestly still have a tiny hope (although it is getting smaller and smaller) that the series is good and also is at least a little faithful to Tolkien's work, and that simply what has happened is that it has a disastrous marketing campaign and actors with more ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

That is what I am talking about as well. Those are auto generated and almost never accurate. For old items that are just being reordered, those dates are an average for a reorder but can be 30-90 days off. For brand new product they don't reflect anything real. Thanks you very much for the explanat...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I have said it many times here before, but those dates are something that is generated by their system when they place a PO with United. When the dates come up, they are automatically bumped back a set date. They are not real shipping dates. Excuse me Kit, I didn't mean to bother. I did not know th...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I hope so. We know Guthwine is in the works and hopefully Herugrim next. Let them come!!! I seem to remember that they also commented about the Boromir's scabbard, but I don't know what order of the release list it is in. For my part, I will buy all the new scabbards that come out. I already have a...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Blue Glamdring scabbard back in stock at Budk. Hopefully it sells well and convinces UC to reissue the Ranger sword scabbard too. *fingers crossed* Yes. As soon as Castle Kon has it available, I will buy one. I hope it sells very well and reissue all the scabbards, and they also launch new scabbard...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I could be very wrong here since I didn't buy any of the recent reissues of anything (since I have all the originals), but I should think they would all be in the new packaging. The Hobbit stuff at least most certainly is. I think as far back as Isildur's sword and the Bearded Axe, they had started...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I actually did! I found a blacksmith on Instagram who was making pans and able to take custom orders. It wasn't cheap as it came all the way from the UK. It is a heavy duty hand forged piece and you could definitely kill an orc or two with it. You can order one by messaging him on Facebook or Insta...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I received one of these a few weeks ago, and mine has the same aggressive cleanup on the guard. It's a shame, it seems to be normal in new editions. :( I will receive mine shortly, in no more than a month, I hope. When I receive it, I will tell you if the ones that UC send to Europe retailers are t...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

That does look infinitely better and I'd like to try it once I receive mine. To be clear, what product are you using? I've never heard of 'white ink'. It's probably not paint, so what is it? A dye of some kind? It's white alcohol ink in rubbing alcohol. People usually use alcohol inks for tye dye-l...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Sting Scabbard (LOTR) and Ringwraith sword both in-stock now at Budk. Thanks. Too bad BUDK doesn't ship outside of the US. :( As soon as they're available at Castle Kon, that will be my next purchase. It will be a bit more expensive with shipping costs and taxes when arriving here than buying it fr...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I have been doubting whether to buy the phial in a store in my country or order it directly from Weta, thinking it would be faster directly, but it seems equally I'll have to wait because Weta to Europe won't start shipping phials until July, as stated on their website. :( I have never bought anythi...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Flexible urethane does not crack. There are rigid urethanes that do crack, as I found out the first time I strung up one of the Tauriel bow props Weta sent me. They used the wrong urethane for the batch of bows mine came from, and it cracked in half. Almost all of the LOTR Weta props I own, or owne...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I understand every collector is different and to each their own . But I don't understand the thinking that Orcrist Scabbard is toy like . It is very solid , and the finish is not bad , not like the larp versions of some swords that I would call toy like . I also don't consider Sauron or Azogs Maces...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yeah , give it time . You will PROBABLY get to the same point . If there is something you really want , that can't realistically be made in real world materials , you lean towards quality replicas in other materials . MANY of us here waited for MANY YEARS , just to see the reality of Sauron's Mace ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Could it be that I am a new collector, because I still have that snobbism that Valkrist comments. :P Maybe over time I'll get used to them and accept the plastic replicas a little more, I don't know. ;) Although I understand it for the replicas that there is no possible way to make them in real mate...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

That's the problem. Two years later, not all of them, and no official announcement that they will. Still no stand alone 4k release of Lawrence of Arabia. No guarantee the stuff in volume two will get individual releases either. They have finally announced it for June 7 in USA. In my country they ha...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I saw that, but I was messaged today by someone else who received their sword and they paid full price. So this is the 2nd one now that is like this. I have a feeling they are all similar unfortunately. I didn't see the second sword comment on Instagram. Then it seems that finally that is the finis...

That's the problem. Two years later, not all of them, and no official announcement that they will. Still no stand alone 4k release of Lawrence of Arabia. Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

That all depends on who did the upgrade and what the source was. I have seen plenty of movies upgraded to 4k from a 2k master that do not look better than the previous Blu Ray release, even with HDR. In some cases, they look worse. Most of the studios, except Disney, are getting better at it though...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Yes, the UHD has a more similar color to the DVD but with more natural and rich colors, the real improvement is really a lot, it just cannot be seen in the captures because it is due to the HDR, the high range of color and brightness that the UHD have, and that can only be seen through a TV with HDR...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Well, I really want to like this show, but they're making absolutely everything they can to ruin it... And they're succeeding. Apparently Amazon Prime Video UK uploaded this cringeworty video with random people acting as 'LOTR superfans' and asked them to comment on the teaser trailer. It's so awfu...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

I don't expect anyone to undertake a painstaking search, but if anybody just happens to want to look through the supplements, it's great. I have searched the image galleries of appendices 1, 3 and 5 and I have not found that image. Maybe it shows up during one of the videos out of all the extras fo...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

I still keep them, they are one of my greatest treasures and I think that better editions have never been published than those (perhaps the edition of the shelf was better, but I don't have that one because in my country it was never published). When I have a while I could see if I can find it for y...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Just watched this long video, imo yet another one clearly stating the general feeling of the fans about all this. I think it's well worth the watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLj2qamFUuI Nice video, great explanation. I myself feel that way too and I this days have suffered the consequences o...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Apparently the so-called Tolkien 'scholar' that was hired to replace Tom Shippey is an unapologetic social activist firebrand who stated Tolkien's works are problematic and adored by neo-fascists, and that so-called 'fans' that dare criticize any modernizing of this outdated tale are nothing but di...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Found these online. I would definitely feel more hyped if they were the actual official releases  Anyway, I think we're all over it now; let's hope for at least a good script/story! They would definitely look better like in those photos. I also already have ultra-low expectations. Not s...

Re: The Rings Of Power

From the latest Vanity Fair article. "It’s worth remembering, if only for legal reasons, that this is not the exact same world. The production design, though similar, is not trying to match the Jackson films. For example, King Elendil’s legendary broken sword, Narsil, which debuted on one of P...

Re: The Rings Of Power

For anyone who has not already written off ROP, that article goes into exactly what stories the show will cover of the five seasons. Basically it will go through a few of the big Second Age stories: the forging of the Rings, Sauron's rise to power, the rise and fall of Numenor, and finishing with t...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I will still watch the show when it comes out, but I dont see the need, personally, to continue on any discussions/debates over the next, what 7 months. I've really never been one to watch a trailer and go frame by frame and look for all the details, and as a new rule, I try to avoid trailers and s...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Nothing is immune from this nonsense. Nothing. The real tragedy here is that all the bile that is being spewed while people spin their wheels about race is drowning out what few of us are willing to engage in genuine discourse. It's a shame hearing people slowly leaving this thread (I count three n...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I saw the trailer last night, I waited until it aired and then I stayed up for a few more hours watching TheOneRing live... and today I'm defeated by how little I've slept. Watched the trailer on YouTube. About as generic-looking as it gets for (insert any name here) fantasy show. It was brief, and ...

Re: The Rings Of Power

 I get what you're saying, just invoking conversation. I've personally always thought that some of the more complex mythos of Middle Earth should maybe be filmed in an anthology style. Have a mini series of Beren and Luthien, or a mini series of the Fall of Gondolin, etc. You're telling the s...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Yes, that is the greatest crime and I do not understand how Tolkien State has allowed it. I guess just for the money. It would have been incredible if they had chosen actors for different ages of the human characters to see them grow old, and that every 2 seasons there were new human generations whi...

Re: The Rings Of Power

And another thing that I don't like about today is that if you comment on something that is interpreted minimally against what is politically correct, they immediately treat you as racist or homophobic without paying attention to your reasoning. People can disagree all they want, but if someone (no...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I guess I can call myself a hypocrite, because I was going to stay out of this but here goes.... I think one thing people are forgetting is, people b*tched and moaned for LOTR and The Hobbit, just back in the late 90s/early 00s there wasnt the impact of social media as there is today. People where ...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I agree with the above. I think representation is important but it should never ever be just to fill a quota or appear to be “woke”. It should make sense within the narrative. Unfortunately, that one element takes this right out of the both the Tolkien book universe and the movie universe for me. T...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Sorry, but I can't get past the "Diversity for the sake of diversity" part. I have to agree with whomever it was at FoU that said have diversity among the elves (or any race of ME) is fine so long as it's consistent, that is, like a tribe. You can have a bunch of elves/dwarves/men etc tha...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Lastly, we did wonder whether this was being floated as a false flag to generate 'testing the waters' chatter, and I didn't think so as it is much too late to change anything. My suspicions were confirmed when someone else posted this: I'm gonna try (my hardest) to not get too involved in all the s...

Re: The Rings Of Power

I couldn't resist not read the FOU thread (at least the part of the supposed leaks of the identities)... and I hope that some things are not true, especially Adar and Meteor Man.

The posters gave me hope with only the small downside/doubt about the weapons... this now makes me less optimistic.
