Re: Game Of Thrones

Lindir, I have to admit similar disappointments with the depiction of different characters on the show and in the books. It seems like every time there's a character who's not straight and white, they have to be shown as being deviants, villains, or killed off promptly. For all the hatred the High S...

Re: Game Of Thrones

For me, GoT has always been about the character interaction. Not about the random murders/betrayals/battles, etc. Spoilers, obviously: -Cersei/Tyrell matriarch scene was really well done. These two mama bears circling each other and admitting defeat, but still ecstatic at each other's defeat. -Davos...

Re: Dragon Hoard

I've been working all month long on brand new features and ways to streamline item addition. I expect to have the new version up sometime in the next two weeks. This update will include many things, among which is the addition of new companies and items. It'll be a work in progress as it's difficult...

Re: Game Of Thrones

I would not yet go so far as to say it's floundering. However, I have felt a little disappointment. Part of that is I've been subconsciously looking for a decrease in quality, knowing the writers are past the books now. And part of it is too many storylines, too little time. I'd much rather they sp...

Re: Game Of Thrones

So...halfway through the season. WIthout spoiling (too much, anyway) for anyone who's come in without seeing the most recent episode(s), I have to say that while this season has/had potential, it's kind of floundering. Last night's episode suffered the same problem as the premiere where it decided t...

Re: Game Of Thrones

One thing that irritates me to no end when folks try to defend ASOIAF or GOT is that it's true to real life. People die randomly, "All Men Must Die", blah, blah, blah. As Val put it, having it circle back and restore everything that was would be incredibly irritating. Because say what you ...

Re: Game Of Thrones

The show is absolutely laying the ground-work for Jon as a Targaryen. As Val says, they've thus far not done the work to get that storyline, and they're paying for it now. The only way to do it now is by flashbacks. A lot of the evidence in the books is through inner monologue rather than any events...

Re: Game Of Thrones

One thing GRRM and Game of Thrones have definitely tried (and occasionally succeeded) to do is subvert expectations. This isn't to say they do this every time (Yeah, Jon Snow's dead, we get it, you can stop trying to convince us...), but they certainly try to do it. Killing of Ned, for example. Not ...

Re: Game Of Thrones

When it comes to Littlefinger, I really wonder if he has an end game. Initially he was closely tied to the Tully family, now he's seen a majority of them wiped out. I initially thought he was aiming to get Catelyn, but seems less like a real schemer and more like the Joker. Just causing mayhem every...

Re: Game Of Thrones

The books are what I would consider the "first draft" take on the story. The show absolutely does it better, removing characters that are pointless and storylines that don't go anywhere. This isn't to say the show is flawless, but it improves on the books in almost every way. There's a lot...

Re: Game Of Thrones

I finally got an HBO Now subscription for this season, so I'm able to watch the episodes as they air. I'd say this season is off to a good start. I don't know that I'd say they're the best consecutive episodes, but that could well be true. My only problem was with the first episode really. Too many ...

Re: Dragon Hoard

Just to update folks, I've been very busy with other work since the launch of Dragon Hoard, but come May I'm expecting to have a bit more spare time that I can devote to working on this. Expect to see things showing up starting in the first week or two of May, and hopefully by the end of the month w...

Re: Star Wars: Rogue One

I'm really hopeful that now that Disney has Lucasfilm and the success of Marvel's universe, we see the Star Wars universe expand. The more distance we put between the audience and the Skywalker clan, the happier I'll be... But yes, Fett and Solo movies are very dull. I'm all set with prequels that w...

Re: Dragon Hoard

Let me step in here to say that Dragon Hoard serves two, very separate, purposes: 1. Public - Allows you to put your collection out there for the world to see. It generates your signature automatically (this will be customizable in future) and everyone on the forums and anyone viewing posts as a gue...

Re: Dragon Hoard

Apart from new items/companies, are there any features folks would like to see? I'm getting a "roadmap" for Dragon Hoard development going, and now is the time to make suggestions!

Re: Dragon Hoard

Buckeye, it's my personal hope that Dragon Hoard will be RIGHT up your alley, then, as I do the exact same thing and wanted to make it a website for everyone to make use of. Expect lots of recording keeping potential in the future. :)

Re: Dragon Hoard

Thanks! Just added the Noble stuff to our running spreadsheet for the next company uploads. Some companies will be easier than others. Weta, for example, has the history of their items on their site. Getting a good database of their stuff will be very easy. Noble, on the other hand, only has a store...

Re: Dragon Hoard

I believe we do still have everyone's collection info from the prior version of UCForums. I'll double check this weekend, watch this thread for updates. The next batch of updates to Dragon Hoard will include a suggestion form so folks can official put in to have some of the smaller companies added. ...

Re: Dragon Hoard

Glad everyone has been enjoying Dragon Hoard! We're itching to get other companies and a few other more interesting (we think, anyway...) features to it! We've decided to keep it simple for launch though, so as to root out any fundamental bugs. What's really good about Dragon Hoard, is that we built...

Dragon Hoard

UCForums Unveils Newest Feature! The admins of UCForums are very excited to announce and open our newest feature of our site: The UC Forums Dragon Hoard What is the Dragon Hoard? It's your chance to create a database of your collection! You can also view the collections of other users. Use of the D...

Re: Bugs to be fixed

The phone likely goes in and out of connection/jumping onto data/different wi-fi connections. As a security measure, the forums normally check to make sure that the IP you used to login and "remember me" on is the same IP you're on when you pull up the browser again. This is done for sever...

Re: Shire Post Coins

Here's to hoping no one buys it. This sort of thing is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

Granted, there were people who put in over a grand for the Kickstarter, but $500 for a single coin? A coin that's only slightly different from others? That seems ridiculous.

Re: Shire Post Kickstarter

Received mine yesterday...I have to say these things are fantastic. I have only two comments (note: not complaints). One is that they are much lighter than I was expecting. The other is that most coins have a freshly minted look to them, and why shouldn't they, while some look used. As I prefer the ...

Re: Shire Post Kickstarter

You might have to toss the extra shipping on. I had the same problem, Val (thought I haven't gotten a shipping notice yet). They seem to be really happy with the turnout and incredibly good with Kickstarter, so I wouldn't be surprised if they double checked Paypal and added it in before sending them...

Re: Shire Post Kickstarter

Being a big Rohan fan and easily susceptible to peer pressure, I too sent along the extra for the Black Brumby. I'm curious to see what the cost of these coins/sets will be post-Kickstarter. I'd love to pick up extras of some for display purposes but couldn't afford it atm.

Re: Shire Post Kickstarter

With 3 hours left to go we are CRAWLING toward 90k. 100k isn't going to happen, but 90? If a bunch of people scramble to make sure that IF the stretch goal is hit, they will get the free coin, we could very well see it happen. Fingers crossed!

Re: The Hobbit

Definitely. The tracking info on their site says my package is close, USPS says it's still in New Jersey.

Re: The Hobbit

For me, Amazon too frequently uses USPS for delivery, and the USPS is terrible in my state. I say state, because it's been bad for the past four places I've lived within the state. Things are late, lost, damaged, etc. constantly. I've had many discussions with Amazon about not using USPS (even when ...

Re: The Hobbit

Amazon's been botching shipping for years for me. I never order from them unless they have an insanely different price from other stores or if they're Amazon exclusive, which far too many Bluray releases have been of late. Mine has been "preparing for shipment" since Sunday. Just got the s...

Re: Shire Post Kickstarter

Pretty close to breaking the last stretch goal. I had to lower my backing amount when some rather large bills rolled up to my front door and kicked down my happiness. But I'm still grabbing The Nine! I'm hopeful to buy more later when they start selling them normally. Probably more pricey, but at le...

Re: Shire Post Kickstarter

I"m excited to see this KS go smoother than the Legendary Coin (Drawlab) KS I backed. That thing has been a debacle. Don't get me wrong, the coins are nice, but the chaos around getting them has been almost hysterical to watch unfold.

Shire Post Kickstarter

For anyone else looking to bleed their bank accounts...Shire Post just started up their latest kickstarter for officially licensed Hobbit/LOTR coins! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1717678842/licensed-coins-from-the-lord-of-the-rings-tm-and-t As of right now (1:43 EST on 10/29), it's 24% funde...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

I usually prefer to go opening nights to films, but over the years it's lost its appeal. When it was truly a "midnight" showing, you were basically guaranteed that everyone in the theater was a die-hard fan. They'd be quiet, respectful, and above-all, into the movie they were there to see....

Re: The Hobbit

I was kind of hoping for a nice boxset of the extended editions...might be holding off on a physical copy for now.

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

Disney has done some truly interesting/awesome things over the past few years. I'm a Star Wars fan, but I'm a bigger Marvel fan. When Disney bought Marvel I was terrified, but it turned out to be the best damned thing that ever happened to the franchise. They got Spider-man back, they've played hard...
