Re: Haldir's sword
Whenever my reach exceeds my grasp, the Lord reaches down from Heaven and puts it in my hands. I pulled this stairway off so I'm sure I will succeed in my petty plans for a display room.
My apologies, Thranduil, if I mis-stated myself. :embarasse Not ...

Re: Haldir's sword
I'm not positive if he was even serious... :'( I sure hope so!
Not to worry....I think he's serious.

And even if Thranduil has underestimated the time he can do it in, " A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?"

Re: Haldir's sword

Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee......klunk, klunk...klunk ...[Squeal of tires, grinding gears, backing up for a detour...sorry, just for a moment ....]
A complete description would probably take a thousand words so you'll just have to wait for a photo. :coolsmile Act...

Re: Haldir's sword
Aye, a crime it would be. Perhaps do a full map of Beleriand and all of Middle Earth from Fonstad's Atlas of Middle Earth? That might do the trick, after all there's plenty of room in far Harad for second age gondorian shields, and I doubt Hildorien cares if ...

Re: Haldir's sword
That sounds like an awesome idea, but the more I got to thinking about it, the more I think you'd need a room like the Sistine Chapel to pull it off. The problem is, the collection LOTR is so big (and still growing,) and with some of the items like the shields...

Re: Haldir's sword
The easiest way ro do that would be to paint it yourself. It actually wouldn't be that hard to do either. Get a map of middle earth in black and white ...and print it out on an overhead transparency then use a projector or a light source of some kind to blow ...

Re: Haldir's sword
I had intended on making real wood plaques for all my pieces .... but ultimately ed convinced me of eliminating all plaques in my display.
(A bit off topic but...) Thranduil, what sort of backdrop to your weapons display are you considering? Plain wa...

Re: loth bow?
Arwyniel's version was made specially as a non-functioning piece. Wood was cut differently than it would have been for a functional bow, I believe.
Jaman, are we talking about the same bow? Or I should say, the bow from the same place? I never knew t...

Re: loth bow?

Unless I'm mistaken I think Arwyniel had one of the Loth bows from Bowstick. She mentioned that she sold it when the Official replica/repro finally became available. Not sure what she sold it for, but I think she said she bought it for $600. Nor do I recall her mentioning its draw weight or draw len...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Good stuff Olorin. Some things I knew--about half of them-- and some I didn't.

First one was great---I never knew THAT about JRRT. Too funny.

Re the gravestones with Beren and Luthien on it, I saw a photo of that somewhere, maybe in the "Letters of JRRT."

Re: Haldir's sword

They cannot make Haldir's Sword --not yet! Got that ???? If you're going to ping UC to make anything LOTR you ping 'em to make Guthwine. Guthwine FIRST, and if there's any stainless steel left over, THEN they can make Haldir's sword. But not before. No Sword of Haldir until they make Guthwine! Them'...

Re: The Hobbit
With the amount of material cut from the books to make the theatrical and/or EE additions, take your pick... what would a 1 3-hour movie have consisted of?
The entire LOTR done in 3 hours?!!! The movie would just be one protracted blur. Prologue:...

Re: The Hobbit
Sigh. You know, at this rate I'll be able to read The Hobbit to my kids, then jump in the car and take them to the nearest multiplex so they can see it on the big screen as it comes out... and I don't even have any kids yet.
Valkrist, at the r...

Re: Helm of Elendil

Re: Weta Aragorn sword
Anyhow, let's move on to the Peter Lyon swords. :thumbs_up
WAIT! (With apologies to Valkrist) Don't move on just yet. I came rather late to the game in collecting the UC LOTR Swords and Knives. I started collecting in the fall of 2005. All my pieces a...

Re: The Hobbit

Something to consider that may put a few minds at ease concerning how the talking, dancing animals and Beorn can be pulled off, and not descend into the silly and unbelievable, is to look at PJ's Treebeard. Here you have a walking, talking tree, that were it in any kid's film would be pretty nausea...

Re: Dwarven travelling gear

What I meant to convey was that the craftsmen on that site have compiled a lot of info, so (1) you don't have to go hunting everywhere on the web on how to do something, or what kind of tools to use etc. And (2) since they are e xp erienced, they have already made the mistakes novices make. So if yo...

Re: Dwarven travelling gear

EG, You didn't say how much e xp erience you have doing leatherwork, but here is a site that gathers a lot of leatherwork info in one place. http://www.mailleartisans.org/articles/articledisplay.cgi?key=587 The members are chainmaille artisans so I would think they know a lot about the type of dwarv...

Re: NC Staff of Gandalf the Grey

I can't say if a WK suit is worth 7K but it's worth quite a few 1000 if only because there is actually a lot of craftmanship involved in making it, making every part fit right and look right. The staff? A scupley/apoxie model, make a mold, and pour in a cubic foot or so of resin. Oh, and put a hunk ...

Re: Dwarven travelling gear

EG Gauntlet design looks great. Re the belt....The loop for holding the axe handle needs to be larger, top to bottom. It should probably go from the top edge to the bottom edge of the belt. Then you can rivet/stitch it along both sides. It will also look more rugged and "dwarven" if it's a...

Re: Dwarven travelling gear

Darlak, you're exactly right. It even tells you how to do that on the AlleyCatScratch site. But I get the inpression from EG that he's got a budget to adhere to, and so modeling and casting his own might be beyond his means right now. So if he could find one that's a close facsimile, already made, t...

Re: Dwarven travelling gear
The travelling gear consists of: Bed roll tool bag (worn over the back) Belt (which holds Gimli's bearded axe and has two small pouches) Gloves (hand carved leather) Cape (heavy cotton) I am planning on creating all of this by myself. If anyone has any tip...

Re: T. Burton's Alice in Wonderland
It was not shot in 3D, but had the fake 3D treatment added afterwards. I saw the standard version. No 3D needed.
I meant to ask about that. Glad you mentioned it. I will see it in "standard format" as well. Thanks for saving me a few bucks.

Re: T. Burton's Alice in Wonderland

I guess Christopher Lee had limited screen time because of his age. He's, let's see (have to look it up) ...87. Too bad he might not be in The Hobbit for the same reason---age. What a shame. And yet he is in AinW so maybe he will consider doing a small role in the Hobbit, if they can shoot it in Eng...

Re: Dwarven travelling gear

EG, Attached are links to making Gimli's armor, clothing etc. The links are to AlleyCatScratch which is already in the UCforums under costuming. But here they are anyway. Lots and lots of good ideas. I'm working on a couple of LOTR clothing and props projects and I use that site all the time. The s...

Re: T. Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Decided I'm going to see it. Read another positive review last night. No doubt some reviewers gave it a thumbs down like Sedhal, and others a thumbs up, lile Domenicnas -- matter of taste (where have I heard/read that before?) and what you are looking for in the movie. But the reviewers I read in ge...

T. Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Any Tim Burton fans out there? Anyone planning to see Alice in Wonderland? I've read some reviews ---pretty positive. Anytime he and Johnny Depp get together, there are going to be some surprises. I'm a pretty big fan of Johnny Depp (the actor, not the person---I try to make a distinction) so I see ...

Re: NC Staff of Gandalf the Grey

What do you say to starting a rumor that UC will be producing a [officially licensed] Gandalf the Grey Staff that makes the NC one look like a "hunk of cheap resin", and that it will be selling for under $400. Wonder what the GtG Staff bidders would do.... They can't e xp ect UC to either ...
