Re: Argonath

It won’t be classified as an MC due to their commitment to only releasing one a year during comic con. I haven’t heard a price on this but the price I heard on the West Gate of Moria concerned me regarding its size (cause it seemed too cheap). I’ve been reassured it isn’t the small size of the old ...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Very good. I've been known to "faux it" on not a few things. :thumbs_up Looks great tho'. I've noticed that you used alder for a number of projects. A woman in my woodworking class used to make really nice headboard (stained it mahogany) I've never used it. I use maple a lot (for smaller ...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Oh... I forgot you post your projects on instagram. FoU ... I never saw it. But then, I'm rarely over there anyway. The cross piece supporting/stabilizing the legs....wedged mortise and tenon? If so, do you cut them freehand (with your own jig) or do you use a commercial M-T jig? The tressel style ...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

First... major-ly jaw drop (or three) :jaw: I have no words to describe your work. It leaves everything else you have made in the dust. (Altho' I DO have words to describe what I'm feeling...it is called major-ly envy). The window is a nice touch. The book stand is very well done. Second, ....haha....

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y Bilbo and Frodo! :cheering: :big_wave:  (Always glad when this day comes 'round :jump: ) Yes, in honor of Hobbit day I finally finished Bilbo's writing desk and bookstand. I also made the window frame to go behind the desk, the chair was a local craigslist find. :c...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

... Yes, I did sell mine a few days after Weta announced theirs. It sold on Ebay with "buy it now" for $500 + shipping. Uhhhh.... I don't get it. Weta announces the availability of a screen accurate version of the Phial, and after the announcement your NC version sells for almost 5 times ...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I think N2 has the NC one also........market (Ebay) will soon be flooded with NC Phials. He's already sold his. I will be listing mine today. I don't think there will necessarily be a flood, but yeah, the longer I wait, the more likely that a few will begin to pop up. N2, what did yours go for, if ...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Finally, an accurate Phial of Galadrial replica. I never thought this would happen. What were the inaccuracies wit the NC one? I don't have it...I have John Lowe's version which was copied from the NC one. But neither the NC one nor the Weta one have the "glow-y liquid" that John's has. A...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I literally just took that from one of Drew Hall’s comments in that screenshot above. Word for word. I added the, “They’re apparently now” to the second sentence, but those are his words. It sounds like he did not understand what was being sampled and got confused by the 'steel' in the finish descr...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

So I guess this was also posted by Drew on Facebook. I didn't know they were going to even try for a metal casting due to warping. As glad as I am that is metal versus polyresin, I'm really curious as to how this was manufactured differently to keep it straight and within costs to produce. https://w...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I'm still debating Sauron as I'd have to make room somehow for him as well as selling the original. All the others are a pass for me as we should be getting Elendil and Gil-galad and they are much more important to me even though they might not be able to be displayed next to each other.

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Valkrist wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 6:00 am Do you guys think it's possible an Elendil and Gil-galad will be revealed before this Sauron ships? I wonder how long he will be alone for...
Since he's not shipping till 2nd quarter of next year, my guess would be yes. Elendil before the end of the year and Gil-galad sometime early next year.

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

So, here we are in our little quiet corner and away from the chaos of FoU... how are you guys enjoying this year's SDCC at home with Weta? The MC piece does not thrill me - pass The new Sauron looks stunning - going to get him The 3 new mini helms - all will be ordered The Saruman on Orthanc throne...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

All I see is the standard Sword of Sam on their site. That MC version sold out the year it was released, long ago. I should have clarified. it is BudK's wholesale site and not the retail site that has these listed. They also have both Glamdring and Sting scabbards, Narsil, Witchking sword, Isildur'...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hi Kit are there any plans to re-release Gimli's battle axe and walking axe? I have not heard anything about a new run of the battle axes. UC discussed making another run of walking axes last month, but it looks like the original casting molds, which were very worn, are now broken. It's too expensi...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

That's a photo the factory shot of their first prototype. I don't have it yet, but the manufacturing cost ended up being a lot higher than expected. I'm not 100% sure United it is still going forward. Well, that's a shame. I would have figured it would cost less than say Eomer's helm. But they may ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It looks like UC is considering reissuing the Isildur sword. That's one of the few LOTR swords that only had one run. It was the first sword made in their China sword factory also, so it never really matched the rest of the line. The blade was polished too much and they botched up the grip. If it h...

Re: Upcoming SOTA plans?

Thanks for finding and posting the drawings for both Sting and Glamdring! I can definitely see elements from the SOTA line in them both. I had to look up the Legends in Steel collection and I do remember most of them and actually have the Pendragon sword. I also noticed that Budk carries a line of L...

Re: Giving Character to some of these UC replicas!

I figured this was the best place to post this as I was inspired by the J-man to do some alterations to my standard LOTR Glamdring. I used some Scotchbrite and lacquer thinner and removed the clear coat and patina to the hilt and pommel. Some of it had already started to scratch off as it was one of...

Re: Upcoming SOTA plans?

Oh, I remember the FM sword well. I think at one time it was in just about every magazine as an advertisement to try and sell it.

If you ever find your proposal or your concepts drawings for Sting and Glamdring I'd love to see them!

Re: Upcoming SOTA plans?

It was so cool to know that one of my favorite sword designers was also working on the LOTR line as well. So, plenty of love for the SOTA line! It was incredibly cool for me as well, considering that SOTA originated as a pitch to the Tolkien estate to get a LOTR sword license, which was my favorite...

Re: Upcoming SOTA plans?

I'm afraid you won't find any collectors of my fantasy knives and swords on this forum to talk to, but I can give you a brief update on future releases. Don't say that! I am a HUGE fan of the SOTA. Your swords are what got me into sword collecting 21 years ago. I asked my parents for a sword for ch...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

That's awesome to hear that they want a sample. I look forward to hearing how it turns out. I too would like the runes reversed like the MC. As for the COA, I agree with Val. With the new thicker paper and tightly rolled up it takes quite a bit to get it to lay flat. I do roll mine the other way and...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It can be heated to specific colors, but it's too difficult to control in production consistently. If we made the blade carbon steel, we have a gun bluing process that works well, but it's too dark. I'll run the blue tinted clear coating idea by the United folks again. I know another run of the old...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Nasnandos wrote: Sat May 08, 2021 1:43 pm Really, you guys would like that? Too bad stainless cannot be anodized.

There are tinted clear coatings that have a similar look, like this. They scratch off though.
Can't you heat treat stainless steel to a blue color? or would the overall color be too inconsistent?

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I thought it was a novel idea when I mentioned it for the 20th anniversary, but it seems that many like the idea including myself. I think slightly lighter blue than the ax Kit posted. I know some of the tinted 2k clear coats are really durable. Who knows, maybe the 25th anniversary would could get ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Has anyone heard any updates on if (and if yes, what) UC will be making anything special for the 20th Anniversary ?? There were plans for a special sword to be available now, but production and shipping delays last year pushed everything back, so it's not going to happen. At this point it would not...

Re: Sword Hangers

This is just a prototype of sorts---I intend to take it down and sand/stain all pieces. Given the cost of lumber these days I won't be doing many of these, but luckily my collection is small enough that I shouldn't need too many. Great start! To help make the screws less noticeable, you could use a...

Re: LOTR Guthwine, Sword of Eomer, by Magnoli Props

Thank you Jash for the extensive and well written review. I decided to pass on this piece for many of the things you already mentioned. There is one additional photo I would like to see if you have time. One with the Weta prop with the scabbard on next to the Indy version also with the scabbard. I n...

Merry's Rohan sword

So now that we have Guthwine in production and ready to ship here soon. I was curios if we could get Merry's Rohan sword as it essentially a combination of both Eowyn and Eomer's sword pommels. The only issue I could see is the scale would probably be different, but I wouldn't mind it being larger i...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I would definitely have been interested, but I too had bough a custom pair a few years ago. The quality is very good and hand tooled leather, only thing that bugs me is the colors are off from being screen accurate.

Are there other leather items UC is considering on doing as well?
