Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Oh awesome! I've wanted the Bearded axe so this is very welcome news. It's nice to see UC reissuing the older pieces I never got a chance to buy. Much easier on my wallet than Ebay. Hopefully the Walking axe will also come back soon. I'm sure it's frustrating for older collectors to see a higher fre...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'm not on Facebook so I wasn't able to vote on anything but I thought I'd take a look and see what the comments were. Looks like it's pretty much across the board of what everyone wants from new items to reissues. My number 1 has been the Lothlorian bow but being that they issued his short bow just...

Re: LOTR TV adaptation

I just continue to find it incredibly dumbfounding that they've cut themselves off from a wealth of written material on the era this show supposedly will take place in, which will inevitably necessitate a crap-ton of invented filler that is all but guaranteed to be 90% eye-rolling, forehead-slappin...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yeah, between the two I'd rather have proper orientation of the horse heads with less detail than full detail on flat sitting heads. Well, maybe I'm imagining it being worse than it will be. Kit, I've never said hello before. Just wanted to say thanks for all the work you put into these. I'm gratefu...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Damn. Disappointing to see a compromise like that on such an elegant hilt design. Hopefully it won't look too bad in its finished form. While I have been keeping an eye on Indy's Guthwine run, I decided that I'd rather stick with UC and keep my collection as uniform as possible. Now though, I might ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I figured the shipping was one reason. But speaking for myself, I wouldn't mind paying a little bit extra for a one piece staff. That being said, it is pretty seamless looking when the two halves are screwed together. We'll see. If this new White staff holds up well and doesn't separate where the cr...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Has anyone picked up the newer Gandalf the White staff? BUDK lists it as all wood. On the site I asked in chat was the crown still made of resin and my response was, "Its listed as wood." ..... Which.... I had already established. Was just wondering. See quite a few with the metal crowns ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Looking good! Nice picture too. I thought for a second you grabbed it off the Weta site lol. For the etched fuller, I would say do the opposite. Try to lighten it up. Where a hilt would age and patina, a blade (if it's being maintained properly) would stay relatively clean do to regular polishing. S...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

I was about to get up and go watch it before I got kinda lazy lol. Looked really good. Definitely going to watch it when it comes out. I didn't watch DS9 when it originally aired. I was one of those fans they mentioned that didn't think the show would be good because it took place in one location in...

Re: Which old UC item would you like to return most?

Yes, the Gimli axes!!! Those go quick on ebay. I always see the battle axe for sale, sometimes see the walking axe, very rarely the bearded axe. I guess UC didn't make a lot of bearded axes. I would think those all would sell really well again, especially considering the lack of axes from the Dwarf-...

For sure! I can't decide if I want to go Tolkien or something else :|

Re: Which old UC item would you like to return most?

I actually like the design of Orcrist... *runs and hides :embarasse * Ronin, no need to be embarassed. Here you are allowed to like (and dislike) a collectible with impunity. We don't flame you....we will still think you worthy to be a forum-ite ... altho' perhaps a bit unhinged .... Phew! That's a...

Re: Which old UC item would you like to return most?

Nowadays every second item they release is either Limited or part of an open run that is still very small. They really do have to weight the costs of bringing these things to market, and yeah, there's always new collectors coming onto the market, but there are an equal number of people out there ge...

Re: Which old UC item would you like to return most?

Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to discuss but the two issues are very much intertwined so it's really impossible to ignore. Oh I very much wanted to discuss this too because like you said they are intertwined :) . Yeah, I hear ya on rereleasing LE items and I'm pretty much in agreement wi...

Re: Which old UC item would you like to return most?

I hope you guys don't mind me digging up an old thread :) . The easy thing for me to say is I want all the items I don't own to return :D . But I'll just narrow it down to a top 5: 1. Boromir sword. 2. Witchking sword. 3. Strider scabbard. 4. Witchking helm. 5. Glamdring scabbard (blue or white but ...

Re: Sword Maintenance

Hahaha.

I have to admit I myself am the biggest offender of touching the blades. Well, I should say I was when I was first buying but now I've kind of learned to stop doing that :thumbs_up . But when I did, I always wiped the blades down before putting them away☝

Re: Sword Maintenance

I've tried many various combinations over the years for my different blades. For the LOTR stainless swords I second Val's advice. What I personally do for preventative protection: 1) Wipe blade down with 100% cotton cloth to remove dust / dirt. 2) Apply oil either on the blade or spray on a differe...

Re: Sword Maintenance

Can't speak for others, and Kit Rae will have the best sage advice possible on this question, but personally I give them a wipe with a dry cloth first to remove any dust, then I spray the blade down with WD40 and work it in with a square of leather chamois. Depending on the humidity level where you...

Sword Maintenance

Hi guys. Just curious, how do you all keep your swords taken care of as far as protection from rust? I know replicas are mostly low-maintenance stainless steel and not high-carbon steel but there's still the chance for damage. Is there any special oil you all use? Gun oil or even motor oil should wo...
