:) You probably think about side-blown flute (modern flute) because the end-blown flute has stronger sound and more medieval, not classical, bird singing like sound :) Either way, it's the question of taste :)

Your arguments all stand but as for me I never wanted functional swords. I like them as what they represent. If I were living in Middle Earth it would be completely different story. If only... :) But living in this time as it is, if I'll ever want something functional and practical I would buy a gun...

I played clarinet for 2 years in primary musical school! The hardest thing was to learn how to blow into it to get a proper sound :D It was fun! But I switched to all kinds of end-blown flutes as I entered medieval music ensemble called Joculatores Slavenses... Miss playing clarinet though :(
