Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Yeah, sounds like you're really curbing your spending, Idril. :rolleye: I've spent up to this point making lists and checking things off and frankly, it got boring. I've now adopted a piece by piece approach; if I love something or take a renewed interest in it and I have the money, I'm going to buy...

Re: A good smoke

Hi Legion! It is great to see you here! :big_wave:

That picture is beautiful, it sounds like you had an amazing trip. The pipe is something else too, what a unique find! :coolsmile

I'm glad to here that your teaching career is back on track as well! :thumbs_up

Re: RIP James Horner

I heard about this but didn't realize that he had died in an accident. It seems like we lose people to small plane crashes way too often; he was a brilliant musical mind and more prolific than and I had realized. He will be sorely missed. :'(

Re: New Movies

Precisely, and the hybrid, having been created by humans, is the symbol of our own folly in thinking that we have nature under our thumb. Learning our place indeed. :viking:

Re: New Movies

Very interesting about the Lost World, and very funny about the screenwriter! It sounds like I would really enjoy the books so I'll definitely go find myself some copies. For the record, I really thought that Jurassic World hit those "deeper topics", perhaps the most out of any of ...

Re: New Movies

I finished watching all three of the original Jurassic Park movies tonight. I felt that the second one was really good until the whole Godzilla scenario with the Rex running amok in San Diego. I don't know how much of that was in the book, but I'm about to find out as I'm about to buy them and have ...

Re: What are you listening to?

Well, I figured that this may be of interest to some of you. Last Sunday night I went to the Rush R40 tour at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Let me say that it was incredible to just see those guys with my own eyes. They've still got it, better than ever. They are masters of their craft and have comple...

Re: New Movies

Okay, I saw Jurassic World! I haven't seen the first one in awhile, and I've never seen the second one. And I have only seen the last 30 minutes of the third one. And all I know about the books is that they exist. So, I would really like to hear the opinions of those of you who know a lot mo...

Re: New Movies

Spoiler tags. neat! :coolsmile :coolsmile Now I really need to get out and see JW. My girlfriend has been chomping at the bit to go see it so maybe we'll head over to $5 movie Tuesdays at the local cinema tomorrow.

Re: The Hobbit

On the subject of deleted scenes, I just read in my Hobbit: Chronicles book that there's a scene where Elrond casts the Morgul dagger inot the Witch Kings tomb. Did this make it into the EE? I haven't seen any of the EE releases yet, and I had never heard of this one.

Re: RIP, Sir Christopher Lee

I've been wanting to see The Wickerman; I don't know the plot, but I know it has to do with the occult and that it is rather unsettling. Sounds like something that Sir Christopher Lee would bring to life! Many people also don't know how impassioned he was towards classical music. Apparently he wante...

Re: What is everyone playing these days?

I want me to play more games, too! Education degrees at Michigan State are 4 years, then a whole year of student teaching. However, for music education, you only student teach one semester. Our degree program is 142 credits (it was 148 when I came in). I'll have you know that it takes more c...

Re: What is everyone playing these days?

Honestly I may just buy the two most recent and then designate a week to play them next summer. I'll see if I can rent the PS4 for the week. I've still got 3, maybe 3.5 years of college left, so that's not going away anytime soon! The next Uncharted will be out soon, too, and I really can't ...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

So I've been reading return of the king and I just got to the point where Denethor burns himself alive and there's a passage where the Dome of the house of stewards burst into flame. Tolkien describes how the flames danced into the air above the broken Dome of this hallowed place of Gondor. It got m...
