Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I agree with, Val, Elven scabbards all the way! I’d happily pay up to £300 or maybe even more for the Hadhafang scabbard if it was done with wood, leather and metal. I’m still holding out hope we might get Haldir’s sword one day and would love to see a scabbard produced for that too but that’s just ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

A brief update - The Eomer sword is finally ready for production. I got the final sample last week. I also got a new Boromir horn sample from the factory. Very cool looking so far. It needs one more tweak to dirty it up a bit and it should be good to go. That’s very exciting news! Can’t wait to see...

Re: Game of Thrones Swords and Props

Thanks for chiming in, Kit! Was it a financial reason? I’m guessing it could also have been something like them not having any staff members able to do it or if they were outsourcing they couldn’t find anyone? It’s interesting that there’s more than one prop though and that the fittings are slightly...

Re: Game of Thrones Swords and Props

I’m glad I’m not alone Val haha, I was worried I was being too harsh but it’s just a poor effort all round. The standard stainless steel version (the one pictured above) is $350 and the Damascus version is $800!!! $800 for the exact same fittings but just a more expensive blade. There’s no way I’d p...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Thanks, Olorin! I’ve started reading and though I’m only a few chapters in I’m finding it to be very enjoyable so far. I wonder how different the series will be from the novels? I’ve started with Foundation and already it feels pretty different to what the trailer shows. Of course there’ll be dramat...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

The trailer pushed me to pickup the book. Tbf I didn’t pay attention to the page count so when it got here I was surprised by how thin it was. Not that that matters much as it’s the story that counts. I’m looking forward to reading it and I’ll have to pickup the other two books in the main story. Bu...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yep I remember him saying that too. I remember him saying that the urethane handles on the Weta Orcrist would probably end up shrinking too. I wonder if that’ll apply to our Orcrist handles? Sometimes they’re just minor but for whatever reason this crack seems quite severe. I’m gonna have a think ab...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

As cool as the Eomer helmet looks I’ll sadly be passing and personally very cautious about poly resin pieces. I mentioned here a while back that I found a crack in my Sauron helm. Well I never tried to repair it because it was so fine and didn’t seem to be a problem so I left it. Today though I saw ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Glad Guthwine is still coming! If it’s the big movie that’s due out at the end of the year then thats interesting that replicas are being developed. I’ve never read the books so don’t know what there is to replicate but looking forward to seeing the movie regardless. Can you say if it’s UC working o...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

Congrats on picking up the box set Olorin! I saw episode 4 on Friday and I enjoyed it better, it does feel like it’s improving. Though yes very short and very thin still in terms of characters and story. I hope it improves with season 2. It’s fair to say that everyone involved with its is very passi...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

Thanks Kit and BC for your comments and I’m glad it’s not just me. That doesn’t bode well. I’ll still stick it out to the end of the season but I just find myself in complete disbelief that this is “the best thing to happen to Star Wars” and “the true Star Wars” :O

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

I don’t know if I’m going crazy but I’m really not enjoying the Mandalorian. Now it’s not fair to judge it really yet as the whole season hasn’t been released in the U.K. I’ve only seen three episodes up to this point and of the three that are release episode three was the best. My main issue is eve...

Re: UK Friends

Hey Striders_Heir, I think may be the only active member from the U.K. at the minute so I’ll help out.

Could you send me more info via a private message?

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yeh I wish they had done Deathless. I would have broken my elf only rule for a lot of the dwarvern pieces from the Hobbit movies. To be fair, I’ve broken it quite a few times and it’s no longer really a rule, more of a guideline at this point haha but I love Balin’s mace from Weta and I think I woul...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Olorin, you do raise a good point about the author profiting from their work. And It’s difficult. As someone who is trying hard to be considered an artist (a photographer in my case) I get annoyed with the current fixation on the artist and not the work they produce. I guess because I’m a more reser...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I’m not Val, but I haven’t seen the Noble replicas firsthand with the exception of Deathless, Thorin’s sword which was somewhat nice but the painted blade was ugly. From what I can see from the in hand photos I’ve seen of their other swords they’re not for me. I remember when the first Hobbit movie ...

Re: Asimov's Foundation novels

Not to deliberately get in the way of this but I came here to tell people that Apple are producing a series based on the novels and I was prompted when I saw the thread title. I haven’t read them myself but discovered them when I was going through the list of upcoming Apple content and the article O...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

I think it will be a new part of the timeline previously untouched in the new Star Wars canon. Kathleen mentioned at Celebration that they were looking at developing an Old Republic movie. I think their plans will be to finish up the media set in Skywalker era part of the timeline and then change an...

Re: Pure StarWars Discussion

I really enjoyed TROS. I’m fortunate I’ve enjoyed 4 of the 5 Disney era Star Wars movies. It’s a valid criticism and it’s definitely apparent now at the end of the story. That being said, I’m glad we got this story. As we are in the position of knowing how the story went off screen, if they had wait...

Re: Game Of Thrones

100% will be checking out The Witcher. :thumbs_up Also waiting for His Dark Materials to finish before binging, and watching The Boys, The Mandalorian, and Jack Ryan. Just binged all of the Witcher and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Really great acting and story and it has genuine funny moments especiall...

Re: Game Of Thrones

Yeh I’m the same. There were three GOT books released I. November - the art, photography and costume books - and I couldn’t bring myself to buy either even though at the beginning of the year I was looking forward to them. It has completely ruined my enjoyment of the show, which is upsetting me but ...

Re: Game Of Thrones

A bit late on this. I had meant to update the thread when the news broke but it’s been a hectic past few months. At this point most of you probably already know, but for those who don’t: https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2483688/hbo-finally-issued-a-statement-on-the-cancelled-game-of-thrones-pr...

Wand finishing

Starting a new thread to ask for some advice from any members that have experience working with wood and finishing wood pieces. I’ve recently made four wands on a lathe. I used boiled linseed oil to enhance the colours of the wood - one of them was painted for a different finish. The main question I...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Balin’s mace arrived and I’m really pleased with it. The metallic paint finish is really well done with the only area I’m a little unimpressed with being the grip. It arrived really quickly. Llane’s ring is due to arrive on Monday and cost an extra £20 in charges. Still a lot cheaper than the origin...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Thanks Ronin! I’m looking forward to receiving it. I would have preferred UC to make a version of it in the real world scale but unfortunately I doubt they ever will. It’s the most unique Dwarvish weapon which is why I’m breaking my elf only rule. I can’t deny I was tempted to pick up Dwalin’s axes ...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I’m glad I got King Llane’s ring when I did as I saw it actually went up in price again.

I want Balin’s mace. I was close to getting Elrond - and it becoming my first and only statue - but it’s sold out. Hopefully the mace can wait until tomorrow as that’s when I get paid.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I’m going to have a go at repairing mine at some point. Not sure what method to go with just yet though. What sort of glue did you use Val? I have the second edition of Sauron’s helmet (sorry) which was made of Polyresin (whoops realised I said polystone before but yes mine is the resin version) as ...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Yeh I’m not a massive fan of Dwalin’s axes either, but Balin’s mace is tempting. I love the Elrond statue but I don’t have space (or money) to start buying statues haha I’ve been tempted by a few over the years but always ended up deciding against them. I think the Elrond statue didn’t sell too well...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I feel the same way about the Orcrist scabbard at times but I remind myself that I would be disappointed with it. Not to knock UC for it as I know doing it in metal would have been difficult and expensive but I’m just not a fan. I’m a bit nervous about buying polystone pieces after my Sauron helmet ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kinda been quiet in here so I hope you guys don't mind me asking about something I'm curious of. Has UC ever reissued any scabbards? The only ones I own are Anduril's and Sting's (Hobbit version). I'd love to get the others without paying the hefty premium in the current seller's market. I wonder i...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Managed to snag a King Llane ring from Warcraft for £45 with shipping. Would have come to £51 but I had some Weta dollars to use up. Been after it for some time, but the £192 price tag was always a bit off putting. First time buying anything from Weta in a Black Friday Sale. Normally I don’t look as...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit, apologies as I believe this has been asked before but I can’t remember if you said you hadn’t received the prop or weren’t able to post pictures of the prop at the time, but would you be willing to share pics of the Mirkwood quiver if you’re able? Either the one used by the Mirkwood scouts or T...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It's dead on to the prop. I still have the full set of Gilmi axe props. Not sure why those axe heads were on the table in that pic. I must have been working on those at the time, maybe for a reissue. I believe it was that UC was considering a re-release. A lot of the things they were considering ba...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thanks for taking the time to explain, Kit, I can see what you were referring too. I’d been remembering the shape of the guard a little differently in my head, so I thought it would be a more pronounced issue but I do think that the angle of the horse/pony heads will prevent it from being a glaring ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hey Kit, Do you think Guthwine will be out this year? I’m assuming it’s going to released next year based on the fact that no spec sheet or anything has been released yet except that image UC posted to their Facebook recently. Is there any chance of the bow line being reprised? I know you mentioned ...
