Re: CJRT may spin in his grave….

My Fall of Numinor arrived. Remember, I got the UK edition by HarperCollins. Almost all of the recently published JRRT/CJRT books I also have in the UK edition. This last one however, came with a tiny extra that the others didn't . So I was wondering if the US published edition came with it also. Di...

Re: UC "Museum Collection" Carbon Steel Anduril ??

Well, I admit, those pictures do look good. I'm liking the higher polished look with the non-antiqued silver plating. I do like bling :) As I was cleaning out the storage area, it made me think... I have: - LE Shards. - LE Anduril. - Anduril. - Custom "battle ready" Narsil. - Just picked ...

Re: Greetings from Louisiana!

Hello Nibs (may we call you Nibs?) Welcome to the UCForum, a quiet corner and refuge from the hurly- burly of the bigger forums. I am a member of both FoU and The RPF but I rarely post... this is my favorite-est forum. Your work is amazing, just major jaw-drop stunning. :jaw: And you've only been do...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

OK back to Weta.... I see (as no doubt everyone else has now seen) that Weta is offering a new Helm's Deep enviro. We all saw this coming ... previously issued enviros being redone to be bigger, better and [arguably] more screen accurate . I'll be the first to say that this H-D enviro looks a lot be...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

.... Well, that's good and bad news. Good that when I start making it UC won't be producing one right behind it. Bad that I now get to figure out every little nuance of this piece and how to replicate it! I'll happily take any or all reference material you have! Hopefully there is something with a ...

Re: CJRT may spin in his grave….

Just ordered one from Alibris.
Alibris lists both new and secondhand books; all the listings for this one happened to be 'new'.
So I ordered the HarperCollins ed. from a US based seller... just under $36 total (signed, sealed and delivered :) )
Should show up in about 2 weeks

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

It was (and is ) apparent you have written professionally ... your posts are testimony to that. You write very well. Grammatically, structurally... just exceptionally good writing (which is becoming more and more rare....like, you know, you kinda get what I mean? ;) ) Well, thank you. That's high p...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I don't... but I have worked as a copywriter. Does that count? It was (and is ) apparent you have written professionally ... your posts are testimony to that. You write very well. Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

You read correctly, the mini helm line disappointingly switched to polystone some years ago, so it's a nice surprise to see a return to metal, even if I suspect it will be limited to this one piece due to the miniscule amount of material required. I haven't looked at Noble's site in a long time, bu...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

.... By the way, the Theoden Crown *is* made of metal, but it is 1:4, of course, not 1:1. I wish Noble had released one back in the day, but that ship has sailed. Oh.... I didn't read all the copy because I don't do mini-helms. I thought I read somewhere that the newer minihelms were being made fro...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

So... I just got an email (and I'm pretty sure most of you did also) announcing the next bucket of milk from the Weta cash Cow: Mini-helm of Theoden's Coronation. Actually that is pretty nice...wouldn't mind having it in a 1:1 version (especially if it were metal) And..... AND....... Drum roll, plea...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Oh yes, the Morgul Vale....without even looking at the movie I can see it. And yes, it was very steep... the first stairway was almost like a ladder; the Hobbits has to use their hands as well as feet to climb it.. The second stair was less so. But the Morgul Vale runs ( more or less) east and west,...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Remember how PJ depicted it? Absolutely vertical. I thought the Nasmith painting was a tad more realistic . Can you describe what scene (or scenes ) that was? I was going by Karen Fonstad's topo style drawings that show elevation and relative slope. Also, the EAST Side of the Ephel Duath is steep a...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

I’ve not looked at either pic that closely yet, nor found the one that’s the deluxe edition cover within the bounds of the book. I think, though, that it is Sam and Frodo in Ithilien . I’ll try to look at the Argonath picture later. I kind of thought that was what the artist was aiming for, but if ...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

I'll reply to the bookplate and St Louis specific stuff in a PM in a few days .... So, for now... looking at the slipcase edition, what is the picture on the case, ummm...depicting? IS it Sam and Frodo? If so, what is the scene from?... It does not look familiar to me at all. Also, the Argonath pic...

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

I decided not to buy the new edition, primarily because I read that there really wasn't anything new about it. Sooooooo...your very cool Ex Libris bookplate... Does it look like this? These are mine (sans name) ... I still have 2 boxes left (50 plates per box) Ex Libris Bookplate.jpg A little trivia...

A Hallowe'en Story

I saw this somewhere ...can't recalll exactly where.... but I thought it was pretty good, very suspenseful and scary. A Hallowe’en Story One windy, rainy night a solitary man was walking home, down a dark, deserted street that went near the local cemetery. As he passed the gates, he heard a bump in ...

Re: The Rings Of Power

Was Bill Murray in Animal House? Because that would explain a lot... HAHA... you are thinking of the Toga parties ...but no, it was John Belushi So here is the young Bill Murray Not a lookalike by any stretch, but it that Gil-galad pic still reminds me of Murray Bill Murray _1.jpg Bill Murray.jpg

Re: The Rings Of Power

@Valkritst.... 'way back before the RoP trainwreck....umm... wrecked; that is, when the teasers were the only thing out there we could go by, you wondered why Gil-galad looked like Caesar. So I've seen a few shots of him in the various articles recently mentioned/linked, and I swear it's a young Bil...

Re: The Rings Of Power

.... For the record, I am not defending the series, which has seemed visually spectacular, but a real disaster in everything else, a real offense to Tolkien and in some scenes it seemed to me a real insult to my intelligence ...... Honestly, I hope that article you've put is right, that they're not...

Re: Shire Post Coins

I'm happy to say that I've finally added the Gondor Double Crown to my Shire Post Mint LOTR coins collection, and was able to do so using their 25% off sale last week. :cheering: I also picked up the silver version of the White Hand of Saruman coin. Congrats.... and dang, wish I'd known about that....

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Well mine hasn't actually disintegrated and actually the pages aren't even that yellow. I must have been thinking of a different book. Give it time..."Ashes to ashes, dust to dust." :D Or stated more scientifically (and with apologies to Rudolf Clausius): : "Entropy always increases....

Re: Pure Middle-Earth discussion.

Good info on the new ed. of "The complete Guide...." . I have the same [original] edition that you have, but mine hasn't disintegrated.
Yet, I will most likely buy the latest ed. (UK edition), but not until it finds its way to the second hand book sellers. '

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

Hokaaay... (I knew a Dutchman who always pronounded OKAY like that ) :D So, I watched two DS9 scenes on Youtube with Kai Winn: in one she is meeting an emissary and the other one concerns something about a civil war and an election. Yep, definitely a restrained version, but Nurse Ratched none the le...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

I can only admire Nurse Ratched from a distance, never having met her. So am I understand that you have met Kai Winn? ;) Yes I have! At least, it feels that way. She did a really great job with the character: the insincere smile, the grating voice, the so-judging tone, all laced through a construct...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

I can only admire Nurse Ratched from a distance, never having met her. So am I understand that you have met Kai Winn? ;) Well somehow I managed not to see that BC already answered you, but having composed this, I'll go ahead and post it. To answer your question is a little complex. She was in essen...
