Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Doubtful, unless you mean a few people upset here? UC never announced anything. I think the only mention that they had looked into it was by me, here. That's why I said it was "unconfirmed" at the time. Hey Kit question... So... UC's Gimli Helm, and the occasional patina or oxidization? T...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Sorry to change the subject, but @Nasnandos a fellow collector recently purchased the witchking sword. Postal service wasnt gentle with it. Looks like the pommel took a hit and now the entire handle can twist roughly a quarter turn. It can be tightened but it no longer is in proper alignment, any th...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hey Kit quick question. I broke out my other Fili sword for some video, and realized though similar, the finishes differ: Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpfTWNqJnJw&lc=z22cfhlqoxb2e1r0cacdp430slwry34wsjzyyvprjjhw03c010c Once is smooth, and the other looks like it has pitting. Is this fro...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

From BUDK I had 4 or 4 Regal Swords arrive cracked. 1 of 2 Dain Helms cracked. At that point I was so hesitant about resin that ordering Dain's hammer was the last jump I made. It made it in tact. But the overall experience made me think the staffs were a bad idea. I just have bad luck though. I'll ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Sidenote, the last Herugrim shipment also suffered the reissue Boromir sword issue. Stitching on one side, trademarks the other. UC and casual collectors dont care, but I've passed over a few reissues for that alone. Seems like when they resurrect something, it eventually gets botched in some way. O...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Are you asking about how big the edition size was in the event it was a limited run item; how many (if all) of that run were made; or how many were manufactured in total even if not a limited item? I can't remember if it was limited/numbered, and I can't check mine any time soon. I mean, they're nu...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hey guys. Does anyone know how many Regal Swords were made? I know they're numbered, but don't recall seeing any info on BUDK when I got it about how many there were. I remember seeing the Dain stuff marked at 1500 pieces and I think 2000/2500 pieces, but even thats gone on any sites that archive ol...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I talked with someone at BUDK while placing an order on Friday and brought up Bard's sword. They said they were expected that day. But would have to be unloaded, checked into the system, then maybe be made available by Monday. I noticed BUDK has changed the availability to the 17th now as well.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yeah my argument has been: there is no way it just "falls off" unless you're abusing it.... don't be childish guys I'm talking about the axe lol. As Kit said in the RPF thread back in 2013 its bolted and epoxied together. You can't get it apart without damaging it. But, like I said, have a...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I have a discussion going on elsewhere, and wanted everyone's opinion, Kit's too if he is willing, he designed them lol. Gimli's Battle axe. Back in 2013 on RPF Kit told how they're assembled. Thanks again btw! Seen the pictures on UC Forums from timdp's disassembly and intention to modify. Verified...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Someone had made mention of Eowyn's sword having a come back, but outside of that one source I hadn't heard anything so haven't put much in to it. That someone was me and I was literally quoting Kit, so the source of that info seems pretty legit lol I put someone bc I didnt wanna use your real name...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

On another matter, finally got a Boromir sword, first run... from a shady eBay seller. "Excellent Condition!" Which translated to rust spots on the blade and scratched up or scratched off clear coat from the hilt. But the plaque was brand new, like... how? Whatever. Blade cleaned pretty ni...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I'm not sure its been awhile since I got my Dain helm. Kimberly said something about damaged units had to be replaced or refunded from the manufacturer, and they'd send them back. I was just trying to get one not broken at the time as BUDK had about 7 left in the warehouse. Someone had made mention ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Admittedly I've been absent from this thread for a bit. Sorry if I'm late to that game. I've already Pre-Ordered Bard's sword, my initial call was verifying it for others who were hesitant to place a preorder thinking they'd buy one later. BUDK has also relisted Gandalf the White's staff, along with...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Okay. I'm kinda hoping Kit can shed some light as well here. So... I noticed BUDK and UC no longer advertise Bard's Sword as "only 600 made!" They've removed that bit from listing. When I called and spoke to Jessica she says, "There is always the chance we'll make more if it sells wel...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Got my Museum Collection Sting yesterday. I wonder if the 600 units is just due to lack of sales. Which I'd understand, why produce 2000 when potentially 1500 may get stuck in the warehouse doomed for clearance. Which is alot of the Hobbit stuff towards the end. I wasn't gonna be in a rush to get Ba...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit, has the Mirkwood Polearm ceased production? I ask because I was looking through the website of the retailer I bought mine from and they’re listing it as sold out and no longer available. Glad I snatched mine up when I did. Last I spoke with Budk it had been out of production, and they had 2 or...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I was planning on getting one myself but since I got the blue Glamdring scabbard my collecting kinda crashed to a halt entirely. Not to bash it or anything, but everyone praises its rarity and how beautiful and epic it is to have one. So when I finally won one at a decent price and it arrived, with ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Did anyone else take advantage of the BUDK flash sale promo code last week? I snagged the Morgul Dagger for $34.99! It should be arriving today. I don't really care for the "bad guys'" weapons, but for $35 I think it would have been dumb not to get it. I ordered two to the UK. One for my ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

No, the hammer. I thought I had posted a pic of it here a few years ago. Post another? .... We're all due a nerdgasm anyway lol. Why not now. I saw someone on Instagram made Thror's hammer of wood, Dain's red axe too, looking great, not like wood at all. Said its all in how to paint them. the_woode...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I won't do quotes, I'd be clicking quote for everyone. To the resin, I own a good portion of resin replicas now. In the case of Dain's hammer and helm, I figured most of the weight is from the steel reinforcement to add the weight for a realistic effect. Thorin's Regal Sword is not that heavy by com...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kinda weird how UC and Weta have taken different approaches recently: the latter has been pounding us with new statues at an unrelenting pace, and somehow we keep paying their exorbitant prices, yet UC is retreating for the time being. Makes me wonder if it is more a question of 1:1 weapon replicas...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Nothing to do with me. The two versions I worked on for them did not have that cracking issue :) Funny enough, I had assumed they had a huge defect rate on the first run before changes were made, but I was told they actually only had a small number of returns, maybe a dozen or so. Ah nice! Well I b...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Congrats on grabbing the black arrow, JJ. How do you like it? Also congrats on getting Dain’s hammer, Kit. I was very surprised with it actually. My girlfriend got it for me for our 2 year anniversary. I usually tell her spend no money on me, but for what it goes for now, I'm glad she didn't listen...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit if youre interested I can PM you a site that still lists them (Dain Hammer)in stock for $198.00? Out of curiosity, how would you have fixed the cracked hammer? I have a cracked regal sword. To this day it bugs me. I like the design, but they sold out as I was swapping out replacement after repla...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Odd Kimberly would act like she didn't know what the Moria Staff was. I talked to her about it October/November of last year. She claimed it wasn't on the list for upcoming items and asked where I got the information. I was actually worried I may have gotten Kit in trouble or something by going dire...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Ah nice. Well I didn't heat it up. I laid the guard on a nearby padded chair arm and pressed down hard on it, and with the other hand torqued the pommel. On my 3rd attempt I felt the pommel shift, and the 4th it was straight as it needed to be. I don't think they epoxy them all that well anyway, not...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Quick follow up, without tools, using the cross guard for leverage, you can force the pommel back into alignment. Its one there though, whatever adhesive they used. Other than that, the only thing someone pointed out was how the brushed finish on the hobbit version looks worse than the 2004 version,...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Has anyone else purchased The Hobbit Glamdring and recieved one with pommel out of alignment? I'm 0-4 with BudK/UC failures in the past 2 months myself. Granted I know its the factory's doing... but c'mon man lol. I quit collecting for over a year bc of QC fails, just started back in November... and...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Really? I thought the UC Dain helm was overly large? Guessing it was scaled for a dwarf's thick skull lol. At least on me it was too large. But.. I also don't have the giant red boar mohawk and epic beard to fill out the empty space either... one day though... one day.... hahahaha. When and if you m...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Yup, thats the color I was trying to describe for the armor in the movie. Just go on and send it my way I'll PM you an address lol. The guy who made my helm used the WETA Chronicles concept art for his base from what I can see. When I first saw it online I noted it was different, and recognized it o...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I never noticed either, and doubt there was a difference in the film, it was just some design artwork in the book. Dwarven_Armour.jpg Sure Kit would live to see it. The Erebor armor in the film had kind of a copperish hue to me as well. When the light hit just right. With some blackened weathering a...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

It is painted. He used the "Moria Battle Armor" as the reference from the WETA Chronicles book. It was more of a grey color. Thats also why the eyebrow-esk parts over the eye holes are different compared the helms we see in the beginning of AUJ. Moreso, Im not much of a DIY person when it ...

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Its not UC but I was hoping they would do one, but, the odds from what I gathered where slim to none. However a very talented guy in Russia did a very good job I'd say. 2 months well worth the wait. 25446394_751454508379880_4301786674321246075_n.jpg Just fiberglass, but the detail is awesome. It wil...
