I had all sorts of issues with my cape fitting on Sauron. It would not go in far enough and extremely difficult to remove. After contacting Weta I ended up sanding and filing both the keyed pin and hole to get it to fit. As for the elbows, they are marked left and right, maybe you have them reversed...
