Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

What I really want is just an enviro of the Grey Havens sans people (nubs) horses and boats (the quay can stay). It would be an enviro like Rivendell or Minas Tirith or Orthanc... just the building(s). But that will never happen. Yet I think that's exactly what we're going to get. What makes you th...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Just as a fun exercise, which Weta main character statues have you guys replaced over the years (or even kept both)? Here's my list (not counting rider, MC, or 1/10 pieces): SSW Gandalf the Grey: Got the Hobbit version and kept both; did not buy Classic Series version. SSW Gandalf the White: Still h...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Ugh... well, when you do a comparison like that, it's hard to argue. :O Yeah, I think sales are the only way to go moving forward. I don't even order from Weta anymore and just go with Castle Kon ever since the Weta warehouse went exclusively with UPS for shipping, making a free-shipping sale almost...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Translucent sky in the background lit by LEDs from within to simulate the sunset? I was more interested in this one. https://www.wetanz.com/us/shop/classic-series/king-aragorn Surely you kid? As for Aragorn, he does look great but I'm not yet convinced he looks so much better than the origi...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

Hopefully it will be moderately priced as it shouldn't have anything sculpted on the back or LED's added. This +1 This trend has become tiresome of late, and nowhere is it more egregious than the new Helm's Deep. Both the sculpted caves at the back and the LEDs that light them are a nice touch, but...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I'm going to say it might be a bit premature to pass judgment on the whole piece based on one teaser photo alone that doesn't show the entire environment. I will hold off on the 'yay' or 'nay' until I see more, but for now I remain cautiously optimistic. Honestly, I prefer the boat sailing away as i...

Re: The Expanse

One of my favourite sci-fi series of all time, right up there with the BSG remake for me. I too hope they film the last three books despite the time jump. Would be a pity not to have a conclusion to the story. Shame what happened with the Alex character also, but the actor brought that on himself. I...

Re: Picard returns!

Oh for heaven's sake... :rolleye: I love Sir Patrick, but he needs to let this go. Not only was that Picard S3 final episode the perfect ending for the character and the old TNG crew, what more could they possibly come up with that he hasn't faced before that's going to leave the character feeling '...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Ah, thanks for clarifying... and simultanepusly dashing my hopes Kit was holding out on us to reveal a secret Boromir scabbard. Man, if that sword had a twisted crosspiece, it would almost look like a Boromir sword ripoff. Same goes for the other one - it looks a lot like the generic Rohirrim Soldie...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

That's looking really nice! :thumbs_up Always interesting to see what's in the background just lying around. Looks like at least two Boromir swords with identical scabbards? Pity we'll never see those, unless there's a surprise in the works? In the second photo, you can also see something with a rat...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

But Sauron's Sword? Lordy, that might be the one item I would have absolute zero interest in. I cannot fathom how any Tolkien fan would have much interest in it, and I don't understand why a casual collector would either...It looks okay, but it has no significance and isn't really that different fr...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

If they want the display, I plan on pushing to get the L screw holes pre-drilled in the back so it can work with one or two knives crossed. That would be awesome, so please push hard. I would love the scabbard, but as you say, they won't go for it. It would be a space-saver to display two knives on...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Sigh. Looks like Sauron's sword is all but inevitable. Like I said, may as well just make the dumb thing already so people can stop asking for if and we move on to other stuff. I just hope it's not a case of it topping the polls and then it sells poorly. It would only make UC more gun-shy about othe...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Honestly, I'm always surprised many people even know it exists besides a deleted scene. You would think the dagger used to forge the One ring would be more sought after since it actually made it in the movie. Well, it does appear for one second, but the scene has no connection to Sauron as it seems...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

I was quite surprised that it got the most votes, considering it was at the bottom on the LOTR Collectors Facebook poll. There area lot of Weta statue collectors there though, so maybe they were burned out on Sauron after buying the big Weta statue last year. That makes sense, because from the pers...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hi Kit, just saw a picture of the new Rohan banner, looks great! Do you know how many UC plans to do? Apologies if that's been asked before I think the plan was to release three to start, then see how they sell before making more. It is still in the sample stage, so I have not even picked the other...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thanks for posting that.

I voted for the Wheatertop swords as I think Merry and Pippin have gotten the shaft for 20 years. I really want the Lorien knife too, but with the swords, we'd get one individualized weapon for each Hobbit, whereas the knife is a single item (though you could always buy two).

Re: User Registration

I noticed that when I logged in today... 5 users requiring activation, usernames seem kinda spammy. Oh, they definitely are spambots. Just a quick glance at their email addresses says everything. I turned it on because two people contacted me asking to register so I opened it up. In 24 hours, they ...

Re: Flame of Udun Forum news

Knew this was coming thanks to a tip, but not surprising at all. Weta's presence there for the past couple of years was negligible at best, with only Daniel and Magnus bothering to show up at all. Honestly, this frees them up to allow freer discussions of other things non-Weta without bias, even if ...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Kit, would you say this new staff is near to exactly the same length as UC's original release (the one with the metal crown)? Seeing as the mount supports the crown at about the same location as the old one (although you do have it at different heights in each of those two photos), I'm thinking I co...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Thanks for the answers, Kit! The staff is looking great, and I concur with what N2 said in that I hope some effort is made in making sure the two halves of the shaft line up so that any woodgrain lines are not visibly mismatched. I believe it's been mentioned this was a problem on the Eomer spear? A...

Re: New Weta everywhere you look!

I'm currently waging war in my own mind on whether to get this piece. The logical step, both for money and space, is to go with the Classic Series version, but yeah... to pass up a chance to own such a grand replica of the White Tree of Gondor would be criminal. As I near completion of my collection...

Re: United Cutlery's - LOTR & The Hobbit - Movie Props!

Hey Kit, two questions: - How close is the White Staff reissue to coming out? I'm at the crossroads point of either putting up my old version or waiting, and if the latter, would like to know roughly how long that would be. Just wary of putting extra holes on my wall when the new mount will no doubt...

Re: Pure Star Trek Discussion

So, I had a random thought yesterday. In Voyager, the Vidiians stole Neelix's lungs, and Kes donated him one of hers. Ocampans only live 9 years, as I recall. Is Neelix now dead? Dare I say that I hope the answer is 'yes'? The character was super annoying. Maybe though, because Kes eventual...
