Phial of Galadriel

Rather than clutter the chatbox, I thought I would put my PoG thoughts in a thread….makes it easier to respond to also.

There is an entire thread devoted to “lighting up the Phial of Galadriel” over on the Candlepower forums. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/sho ... -Galadriel. It is something I am giving some thought to.

The regulars over there took it pretty well in stride; I understand they can be arbitrarily snarky and dismissive of members posting something they (the mods) aren’t interested in.

It’s true that the book Phial was very small…Frodo wore it around his neck.
No way he could have done that with the movie version.
But then the book version wouldn’t have worked very well in the movie Shelob scenes…too small visually. So I can understand PJ wanting a larger version.

The book Phial probably looked similar to perfume phials like this one:
It is about 4 inches long, so it could easily be worn around the neck. It is Victorian era (as was Tolkien’s mother!) and he may have seen a similar perfume phial on his mother’s dressing table and took the PofG idea from that.
