Re: The Hobbit
2Oh no! Those are words I never wanted to read, but what a long and full life!
RIP, Sir Christopher.

A very sad day indeed...

5I can't say I didn't see this coming, but it is tragic nonetheless. I knew he was very old. A sad, sad day for the world of storytelling and cinema.

6As the news is spreading throughout the interwebs, and has been posted on the forums, I thought a man of such importance as Christopher Lee deserved his own thread. I moved all posts about his passing here.

7The man lived an amazing full life and will certainly be missed. RIP Sir Christopher Lee.
Re: RIP, Sir Christopher Lee
8That is truly sad to hear. The man lived a full and interesting life!

Re: RIP, Sir Christopher Lee
9I mean, at his age, it wasnt that shocking, but still, upsetting. He, I think, was the epitome of "live long and prosper." If any of us accomplish 1/20th of what he did, I'd say that was a full life!

10Such incredibly sad news. A remarkable man with an amazing legacy.

11No!!! What a huge and sad loss.
Though Saruman was denied peace by the Valar, may Sir Christopher Lee find his well-deserved resting place in the West.

12Anyone see him in Hugo? Not A big part , but a very likeable one.

13On the way home from work I heard an NPR piece about Sir Lee. I had no idea he was into heavy metal music, let alone that he had recorded a couple albums.

14Tragic news and honestly I really can't find the right words to discribe this person but he will never be forgotten that's for sure.
RIP Sir Christopher Lee and thanks for everything you give to us.

Re: RIP, Sir Christopher Lee
15When I was a kid, his Dracula movies scared the crap out of me. He didn't even need dialogue...just his incredibly diabolical expressions were enough.
Of course, he was perfection itself as Saruman. And he made many many movies in between those two roles, most of which I never saw. Some day I should see the Wickerman; it's a cult classic and supposedly his favorite performance.
In the mean time, a very fond farewell to a great and distinguished actor!

16There are now two versions out that differ from the Theatrical release: The Longer version (aka the Director's Cut) which is the older of the two, and the Final Cut which is relatively new (circa 2013) .Olorin wrote:..... There are passionate opinions about which is better.
I watched the DC version years ago, when it was identified only as the "longer version"--the Theatrical release being called the Shorter version.
After reading about the Final Version I am not overly inclined to view it...there are definitely some "technical issues" with it.

Still, as I said, it is the preferred version for not an insignificant number of people.
It is sometimes billed as a horror movie...it is not, and even Lee (in a 2002 interview) protested that to call it that was incorrect.
And, yes, he does say that it was his favorite role.
Re the story: ...ummm.... disturbing....really, really unsettling.
Makes you think (and wonder)...
And the ending....well, let's just say that it stays with you.
In fact, and awful lot of the story stays with you.

17I've been wanting to see The Wickerman; I don't know the plot, but I know it has to do with the occult and that it is rather unsettling. Sounds like something that Sir Christopher Lee would bring to life!
Many people also don't know how impassioned he was towards classical music. Apparently he wanted to study music at the Royal Conservatory after the War, but never did. He was a lover of opera and supposedly sang arias.
On a side note: when you Google search his name, it lists a few films and then says "View 45+ others" ... You wanna talk about a legacy?

18Not "occult"...pre-Christian paganism (think 'Druids') as practiced by a 20th C. community, what are called Wiccans today...involving primitive beliefs, emotions, and (not to put too fine a point on it) ...savagery.Fingolfin wrote:I've been wanting to see The Wickerman; I don't know the plot, but I know it has to do with the occult and that it is rather unsettling. Sounds like they should release a box set up with all versions, like they did for Blade Runner.
