Hey all,
So my 4 year old is really starting to get into Lord of the Rings. He loves FotR (but we have to close our eyes when the Ringwraiths are on screen)... He's even going as Legolas for Halloween!
Anyhoo I was asking about Christmas ideas and he said he wanted 'Lord of the Rings books'. Now.... books to him are picture books or Step1 reading books. I've done some searching and can't seem to find any short versions for him to 'read'.
Is anyone aware if they've ever come out with kids picture books for the Hobbit or LotR? I figure they must have at some point over the years (if not it seems like a missed opportunity).
Thanks all!
Re: Hobbit/LOTR book versions for kids?
2They've done a graphic novel of The Hobbit. But I don't think they've ever done children's books. I'm sure the Tolkien estate would consider that beneath them.
You could try audiobooks. I know they've done some full-cast renditions.

3Not the same medium but there's always the Rankin/Bass Hobbit cartoon movie. It's of questionable quality and faithfulness to the source material, but I don't think a 4-year old is going to care much about that.

4Thanks for the responses. I can't wait for him to get a bit older and have the attention span for the Hobbit. I may give that graphic novel a try. I think I actually have a copy of the Rankin-Bass animated films somewhere too.

5So because I'm impatient and a geek dad, I've been reading my kiddo The Hobbit already. Screw waiting for picture-book version. At four months old, I highly doubt he understands a word of it, but he hangs on Every. Single. Word. We read it almost every night for about a half hour before bed. He tends to fall asleep during, which is a magic on its own...
