This is the one everyone got confused by years ago, thinking Glamdring had a different grip, but it's the same sword as in the previous images.
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2952It was very fortunate of Gandalf that he didn't bring and thus lose Glamdring at Orthanc.
He must have decided that this was a good trip to bring his back up sword.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2954Ah yes, I'd forgotten you mentioned before the blade itself didn't actually exist, just the hilt and scabbard. Kinda odd when you consider how much detail and work they poured into the smallest things barely ever seen on screen, but did not bother to complete one sword, even if it was never meant to be drawn.
With the cross piece being so similar to Glamdring, I wonder if the swords were connected in some way. Poor Elrond, he loans out Fingon's sword while Turgon's is being cleaned and Gandalf goes and loses it.

2955Wow, lots of exciting news while I've been away! I can't wait to get that staff, I'll be first in line if it happens.
I had quite forgotten about the other sword! Like Val, I sincerely hope that the extra sword didn't belong to another important elf!

Jeez, you are denser than a blockheaded Bracegirdle from Hardbottle.
There is no COSTCO in Bree.
There is, however a store owned by relations of the Gamgees.

Kit, have you shot the final product shots for the pole arm? If so: any chance we could see some of them?

2964No, United is doing the marketing photography on that one themselves, but that is the same sample I posted photos of 3 or 4 pages back.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2965I've been thinking , if it might be possible that UC did Thorin shield (the Oak Shield) . Now that they have weapons in resin and staffs, I see no impediment to do something like the replica that appears in the movie . Can anyone be interested?
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2966I don't know, if the price was low I might buy it because it's iconic but I would be concerned that a hunk of resin that big would seem too fake.
"Remember, the force will be with you, always."
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2967I'd quite like to see it made. Not a high priority item. The staves are big hunks of resin and they look pretty realistic. Also remember, if the oakenshield is made it would be small to be in the correct scale with all the other dwarvern pieces.Fingolfin wrote:I don't know, if the price was low I might buy it because it's iconic but I would be concerned that a hunk of resin that big would seem too fake.

I would definitely like to see this made...
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2969Fair point, it wouldn't be that big. I guess I'd probably go for this one, it is a rather important one after all.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2970That was one of the first items that WB thought we should make from AUJ, before the movie was finished. I liked it, but it was low on my list, so I never got the prop from Weta.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2971I am not sure where the shield would place on my priority list . Guess I would wait to see if its made , what people think of it and the price . On the other hand , I had the Gandalf Light up staff by United in my hands over the weekend to check it out and I was quite impressed . If I didn't have the Gandalf staff already I would get it , so I am undecided here . I think I am going to wait to see how Kit does with the light up Moria Staff .
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2973Yes and no , right now there is one , from AUJ . Kit mentioned he is working on the Moria Staff which he wants the crystal to be lit , so the hopes are there will be two

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2977Probably, but who knows. I was not involved in that one past my initial work and specs, so the whole light up crown was not made and does not look at all like I wanted it to. For completists only, in my opinion.

2978Any news on whether we will we get the Moria illuminating staff Kit?
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2979UC won't announce it until early next year, but I think the staff will be added to their LOTR line. I still have to put together a light rig and make the crystal, so all that still needs to be costed out. There's a chance it won't get the light in the production version, but I think it will. I plan on supervising this one all the way through, like I did with the BOFA/FOTR staff. The prop needs a lot of cleanup and repair that I have not even started on.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2980I'm really looking forward to this staff. One of the few items I really want from LOTR. I could go either way with the light up feature as it would be displayed with it off 99% of the time anyway. I also look forward to any other LOTR items that may come our way! Thanks for the update!
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2981I so need a light up staff. I don't want to miss out on one so I might end up ordering one of these just in case the Moria one falters. If the Moria one gets released, I'll have two I guess.

2991Really looking forward to the scabbard and I'll be pre-ordering when it goes up. I imagine it's still a while away before UC officially announces it though.
Thranduil's sword looks fantastic under the HEWS, and I plan to display the scabbard underneath the sword. Shame I can't get the Mirkwood sword, but at least I'll be able to get the polearm... if Battleorders ever puts it back up for sale.

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2992I received a Mirkwood Elf Helm from production today. United's poly factory got another one made right. The casting and paint job look really good. I'll post some photos later, but it looks identical to the prototype shown in United's marketing photos. The only negative I see is the COA was completely crushed flat due to the way it was packed.

2997Man, that looks absolutely gorgeous, Kit. Nice work on this one, and thanks for the pics. Definitely a pick up for me.
What is the Infantry Helm that you have behind the new one? Looks to be unpainted or a different colour altogether. Is that one of the protos?
Also, I assume that screencap of the polearm is from one of the scenes that did not make EE cut?

Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2998Photos look great, I just may have to pick this one up as I do have the sword on order. I think the grey/silver helm behind is one of the captain or higher ranking soldiers. Also see the end of the war hammer.
Re: United Cutlery's - The Hobbit - Movie Props!
2999Yes, that is a test of the silver/gray Mirkwood Captain Helm colors. Not sure if that version will ever get made, but it's these guys. Slightly different shape and details as the infantry helm.
I was told they never actually shot any footage of it after the initial tests proved to be too cumbersome to use for the crammed battle field scenes, so we will probably never see any on-set photos. That's just artwork made using the CGI characters on the battle field.Valkrist wrote: Also, I assume that screencap of the polearm is from one of the scenes that did not make EE cut?
