Got it today! Woohooooo! I haven't gotten to REALLY check it out as I've been furiously trying to unpack it, take pics, upload pics and make a thread for you guys. First glance is I e xp ected it to be a little lighter in color. It's pretty dark.

Comes in 2 packages, 1 for the bow, 1 for the plaque and arrow heads:

I ordered it back in June. Got the "order complete" email yesterday so I emailed them asking for a tracking #. They sent that this morning. I tracked it and to my extreme delight and surprise it was out for delivery. It originated in Florida so I guess that's why it came quickly. If it had shipped to CA first (where I assume HCG is located) it would've taken a week to get here.

That's fantastic!

Well darn it... My dealer still hasn't received their bow to send to me. Now to choose a nice strip of floor to pace on :D Thanks for the pics though! The bow does look darker than I thought it would as well, but upon comparing it to the screen-used prop... It's pretty close!

A little tweaking and it could be made spot-on, color-wise.

Thumbs up for: getting your bow so fast, that it looks fantastic, and getting #48/500.

Thumbs down for: difference in colour from actual prop, and being made of rubber instead of wood. Can you confirm this last point? Does it say anywhere in the paperwork or box what the bow is made of, or are you saying this merely based on feel?

Ok, so if you ordered yours in June and got it now, and I ordered mine in January, that means I will get it by... :|

I think I will do a custom paint job on mine once I have the time in order to bring it closer to the colour of the prop one. What is it with Legolas' weapons anyway?!? First UC bungles up the colour of the handles for the Fighting Knives, now HCG misses the bow colour by a couple of shades?

By the way, how does it compare to your version from Bowstick?

Oh, rubber!

That's what the real prop was made out of, wasn't it?

That's cool, I guess.

And yeah, Legolas' stuff suffers when companies make replicas of it. Don't forget the UC sheaths for his knives. They're almost black! They shouldn't be so darn dark! Even before they get to Lothlorien they shouldn't be that color (EDIT: And I'm watching the scene where Leggie gets off his horse in Rivendell, so I have irrefutable evidence that they weren't mega-dark brown!))

Congrats! Don't you just love getting the stuff you want, makes an average day feel like Christmas.
My guess is it's fiberglass reinforced resin.

[quote=""xena10ares""]i dont know about it not looking the right color....i mean i think this bow changes color with different lighting...i mean look at the picture below...it looks identical to me.

Maybe...that picture had a flash on it so it made it appear lighter than it really is. The close ups were taken outside in the natural lighting.
I still really love it! :)

Yes, no matter the screen-accuracy of the colors, that is one smokin' bow.

Anyone notice that most of the stuff from Lothlorien has a sort of... Well, I don't know how to describe it... The colors of the weapons and stuff in general they have there are really REALLY subtle shades of green and very mild brown and other foresty colors, with a bit of dirtied white in the mix... But from a distance, they generally just look white or gray.

Something about the subtle grayish color scheme looks so absolutely appealing to me. Still can't describe it properly.

Tonight I came across a site devoted to the costumes of LOTR (how to make your own, etc.) and in the section dedicated to Legolas, there are several pics of the Lothlorien bow. They intentionally provide pics with varying degrees of light and, lo and behold, the bow does take on very different hues. There's even one pic where the bow is fairly dark.

The address is: www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr

Just click on "Characters" and look for Leggy.

This looks really nice from the photos. I have one of the props, and it is Urethane rubber, painted. I was told by someone at Weta that there was no "real" bow ever made in wood for this one. I think it had a fiberglass rod inside for the flex. You can actually shoot an arrow with mine, but it only has about 10 lbs on the draw. Just enough to make it look real on film. Overall it looks like these guys did a great job. The arrowhead looks dead on. Too bad there is no complete arrow, but I understand why they did that.

The color is a bit brighter/blonder on the prop, but they were probably going for the look from the film, which is slightly different due to the color grading. It is likely not all the props were painted exactly the same shade either. Same problem with the legolas daggers. The props vary, and the grading in the film really took the yellow out. The props had much more yellow in the wood than what I saw in the films.

yeah i remember seeing on one of the special features for one of the extended addition dvds that the rubber bows had a rod going through it. and they also show orlando shooting it for real a couple of times, one being a feature on return of the king, orlando shoots an arrow up to a board (were grimma should be standing up on orthanc)and it just barely stuck into the board, which show it didnt have much of a draw, just as you said.

so jamanticus, i guess i will be getting mine around the same time as you huh??? it really will be a race to see who gets pictures up first!!! hahaha

A lot of the lotr props and costumes colors were altered by the color corrections done on the scenes during editing of the film. There is one example on the allycatscratch website on a light blue gown that arwen wore that after the rivendell scene color corrections came out pink! And another that was bright purple and came out in a muted shade of coffee. Because of this, the weapons and costumes look slightly different in each scene depending on how the color corrections and enhancements were done. It's the same thing with the legolas knives looking white on screen but then being a muted caramel color in real life. The best way to see these differences is by looking at the actual props in the motion picture exhibits but then I don't think that they are running any more. When I went I was suprised with some of the costumes and how different the coolors were to what was shown on screen.

Anyway on a different note: anyone know the best place to get the LE version of this bow.
