LOTR wall mount weapon racks

1
Did not want to put up a bunch of individual plaques to hang the various weapons so made two quick and dirty mounting boards; one good and one evil...

Boards are 1x6 pine stained black. The evil board got contoured with a bandsaw and hacked up with an axe before being burnt with a propane torch. This turned out too dark to display the pieces well so it got painted a bit.

Enjoy (or not...)

Looking great there! If you wanna e xp eriment with either of the boards, or try this out on a scrap bit of wood first, burn the wood quite a bit (so its crackly on both sides - doing both will keep it flat) and then use a wire brush to scrape the crap off. what you will be left with is a lovely grained finish, and if you apply any wax over the top of this it will become quite smooth, and look great! just an idea :) it will look like this, with every bit of grain raised and recessed :) http://www.realoakfloors.co.uk/unfinish ... ooring.php
Like that evil board, you need to find some of those old square nails to hang them on and make sure they are rusty
Good point. I'm not real happy with the hangers on either board. Square nails are a great idea. There are also some nasty looking hooks for attaching conduit to wood that might work: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/Nail-Strap-3LR60

Thought about doing that, but once I started burning the board, I liked the crackle effect of the burnt wood. It turned out too dark so I drybrushed it with grays to represent ash, but that was still to dark so it got additional paint.

Hmm I like them. The original plaques look good by themselves, but when you've got 4 lotr swords, it just looks kind of wrong. I'll probably remove the plaque altogether for my ringwraith weps.
