Frank Frazetta

I just read that Frazetta's "Conan the Destroyer" painting sold for 1.5 Million just two months after his death.
It's sickening to me that people will pay so much for someones artwork AFTER they die, and allow them to struggle to survive while they're still alive. :embarasse

Yes Frazetta "made it" and probably enjoyed a relatively comfortable life style, but back in the day when he painted it (1971) he probably had to sell it for next to nothing.

I have to rank Frazetta with Tolkien in a different media;
he was the grandfather of fantasy art. :thumbs_up
"and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts- to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut stones, to work in wood, and engage in all kinds of craftsmanship"

I always loved Frazetta's "Death Dealer" painting. It was pretty much a Nazgul.

Yes, it's ironic that an artist's death drives the price of a work sky high, just when the artist can no longer profit from it. If he/she has a family, I suppose it is welcome, if cold, comfort.
