Estimating the Size of an Object in a Photo?

I'm trying to estimate the size of an item in a screenshot from the Hobbit. Can anyone estimate the length and diameter of the flute in this picture?

Unfortunately the far end of the flute is not shown in the picture, but it's full length is shown ever so briefly in this video segment from the movie:

I'd guess 26 inches long, and not more than 1.25 " in diameter

Well, I got almost the same thing that Diemos got. 26.593 inches long and 1.219 in diameter.

You can get a screen cap from a few different ways. I use VLC player which allows you to slow down the speed and pause and take the snap shot. That is if you have the file on your computer or pulling directly off the disk. You can sometimes use a Youtube downloader and get the video file that way as well.

I also use a piece of software call "Big Print from here - http://woodgears.ca/bigprint/ You have to pay for it, but it does come in handy for making large templates. You do need some point of reference. In this case I used the width of her hand as a reference of 3.5 inches and that allowed me to take measurements of everything else.
